My original thoughts of Severe Wx Season beginning across the Plains/Midwest during the month of May are certainly starting right out of the gates. Since April was pretty lame, this month is gearing up to be a big hitter. Glad to hear our members across NE missed the Tornado and damage it caused.  Things turn active today through Thu and I'm really concerned for the Wed/Thu period for those of you down in KS/OK region.

He did say that there was a tornado south of them but they live on the very northern edge of town.

My sister texted me & said the clouds were real scary looking with funnels spotted by other people, but thankfully no damage in her area of Ks.

Models are unanimously showing 1.5-3.0" of rain here through Thursday, with 3+" in central/sw Iowa.  Models have added light rain tonight as the Nebraska disturbance moves east.

What a spring.  My son is a 7th grader.  They were to have the last track meet of the season today at Central City, about a 90 minute drive or so away from here.  They got to Aurora, about 75 minutes down the road, and the meet was cancelled.  They turned the 3 buses around with a total of about 150 7th and 8th graders and came back to Holdrege.  They had 8 scheduled track meets this year, 5 were cancelled due to combinations of rain, hail, wind, or snow.  What a spring and unfortunately some disappointed middle schoolers.

Did get some late afternoon t'showers today, but nothing to brag about. Although, skies were very ominous, just hvy downpours was the real main threat. Temps remained in the upper 60s.

Hopefully, this could be the beginning of an active Summer season in terms of big storms. So far, no real big warm up is in sight, in terms of AN temps.

High of 82 in North Texas with Secere thunderstorms in the Texas Panhandle today.

Tomorrow will wake us up with severe storms 80*. Threat of hail and high winds. Then we'll calm down to the mid to high 70's and partly cloudy. Severe weather looks like it will be just to the SE of the DFW area. The pattern Tom has spoken of in Texas is occurring as the eastern part of the state is more involved lately.

That's fine. I can pass of the tornados.

Overcast. 70* and Humidity is high at 90% with all this Gulf air pumping up the atmosphere.

The NAM has shifted the low track well northwest.  The deformation zone has been pushed back to SD up through Duluth.  It's a bit of a mystery how much rain will fall across Iowa.  For days, it has looked like widespread 2-3" totals.  The euro continues to show 3-4" of rain in sw through central IA, but the NAM is now more spotty with heavier totals.

Rain has ended and clouds are trying to depart. Hopefully and I mean hopefully, some sunshine can break through today. Looks like a wet week coming up, but the weekend and beyond looks splendid! Temp is at a chilly 40F. Even a wcf is being reported at 31F.

A rather strong (for time of year) ULL feature is traversing the state of Arizona and pretty much overhead.  I had a brief heavy shower come through this morning and there is a bit of a "chill" in the air (62F).  I've been spoiled since I've been here so today's rain and cloudy skies are certainly a change in the weather pattern which will continue throughout the week and weekend.

Currently , a rainy one and cold temps as readings are in the upper 30s.

42 with a wind chill of 35 with light rain, fog and misty conditions.  Feels like late October.  The cold and wet pattern continues up here.

42F and RN at lunch hour here. This blows chunks. A massive disappointment from yesterday's 75F about this same time.

The pattern that kept us on the warm side most of JFM has retracted south now so we get to share in the misery of a late spring.   Thankfully, the last 3 days were stellar in Marshall allowing me some progress on outside projects I had begun a couple weeks prior.

It's 48 and windy here, cloudy, miserable. This is honestly ridiculous. I haven't experienced this consistently cold weather from an April/May stretch since I've lived in the midwest/plains. To be honest, I don't think I've ever had to wear a jacket in this month, but it feels like almost everyday I've had to (except Sunday), and it's constantly just been like this. I'm obviously exaggerating but like COME ON. We've barely touched the 70 degree temps and it's MAY. This needs to stop, like soon please.

You may as well be back in Lincoln right now. Basically the exact same conditions here except maybe a degree or two warmer.

Oh gee, what d'ya know...it's gonna rain tomorrow. We could almost set our watches.

Should begin around 3-4 am and rain through to about 11 am.

They expect an accumulation of about 1.40". Some storms could be quite heavy and hail is possible.

Like clockwork this spring.

Though we are approaching mid May, there has not been a single severe thunderstorm watch anywhere in Iowa.  Only a few counties in far sw Iowa have been in a tornado watch.  There have been no tornado warnings in Iowa.

We haven't even had strong thunderstorms. Hell, just regular thunderstorms have been pretty minimal around here. Plenty of rain, though.

More thunderstorms in Texas, more cold rain in Iowa this morning.  It sure would be nice if we could shift everything north.

Thunderstorms rolled in at 4 am like clockwork. Nice lightning and booming but I preferred the sleep.

The worst of the storm was North on Ft. Worth

We've received .60" so far today.

Edit: At 8:25 Round 2 is thundering it's way in from the west.

This is the beginning of the flooding on the course less than 5 minutes after it had begun.

We are saturated and these 2 lines of storms are dumping a lot of water in a short period of time.

That's seems to be the pattern this spring. Clouds so heavy with moisture that they simply open up and drop the water. Lots of thunder and. Heavy lightning as well.

It's kind of a dud here in Cedar Rapids.  I've only picked up about 0.20" and we're in a lengthy lull.  For days models had the heaviest blob of rain passing through here this morning.  Widespread 1.5-3.0" looked like a good bet, but now we'll have to get lucky to reach an inch.  At least the farther nw low track should allow the temp to rise into the 60s later.

Have had 0.78" already in the month of May, but it hasn't really rained heavy on any of those days. .20, .35, .08, and .15. Very wet spring so far, but not in the way I'd expect it to be. Hoping to get some storms this afternoon / evening, but not getting my hopes up, as that's left me disappointed so far this year.

Raining again with a temp at 50 degrees.  Very little wind today, so doesn't fell nearly as bad as it yesterday.  Not a great pattern for farmers that need to get into the fields to plant.  Most want to have fields planted by around May 15th, so that probably is not going to happen for everyone this year.  The closer you get to June 1st and planting isn't complete, you start to risk issues of an early freeze in the fall.
