June 2019 Weather Discussion in the PNW

Recommended Posts

The first three months of last cold season (November-January) were utter dry trash. Worse than 02-03, in fact, because at least that winter was wet (crappy November but impressive December and January). In late January, snowpack was under half of normal in the Mt Hood area, skiing was all hardpack and ice throughout January, and people were sticking forks in winter.

I don't want a repeat performance. I want a proper center-loaded winter with lots of rain and snow in Portland. Too bad those don't happen anymore, aside from the Great Miracle of 2016-17.

It’ll flip one day I promise. I was lamenting like crazy and then the s valley got blasted in late Feb. I agree I would love an absolute monster of a regional burial from EUG to YVR in Dec-Jan but those types of events will one day happen again.

May as well have voted in Hillary if you think she is a good idea.

Voting for Biden would be like voting for Hillary. Warren is more a trust busting progressive in the Teddy Roosevelt mold.

Politics aside. The solar minimum is going to make Winter 19-20 an epic adventure. Snow for Halloween in PDX and a huge snowstorm over central and eastern OR.

Book it.

And who wants a progressive? Not this real American.

Back in 2009 Glenn Beck learned me real good about Progressivism.

But just like Populism, it is an idea as American as apple pie. Just in this Century the parties promoting them are reversed. There is nothing new under the sun.

Todays progressivism is very regressive though. Pipe dreams that arent practical. Has to be common sense and they dont have it.

hey man even though 85% of the winter was lame it still ended up being the best I’ve seen in my lifetime lol. Was pretty lame before that I agree. 08-09 10-11 and 16-17 were overall better.

Yeah, it was the only major station in the I-5 corridor with measurable rain today from what I can tell. Even vampirey Quillayute out on the north Washington coast only saw .01"

Could it be that the enhanced, 3rd runway-induced sweat of the SEA staff has infiltrated the rain gauge?

Maybe not a "major" station, but Everett did manage .06" today. But that made more sense with them being in the light CZ this morning. The SEA number is certainly an odd outlier.

There was a distinct c-zone most of the morning and into the afternoon running from SEA to Tiger Mountain... south of I-90.    It did not show up well on radar but you could tell it was coming down really good on the traffic cams.  If you were not paying attention at the time then the SEA number might seem strange... but its not.

Yeah, I don't doubt the legitimacy of those micro-climates. Pretty unusual for a station to get an isolated .21" with that type of setup, but it happens.

Just remember this day the next time someone claims SEA is running mysteriously dry...there were rumors of that earlier this year.

His location is now GOOD TO GO for 5 months of rainless, summery heat. Sorry bout the rest of y’all.

His and tims House will probably manage another 2 inches of rain this summer somehow while the rest of western WA gets a half inch lol.
