July 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

It’s funny how the headline says “storm” but when you actually read the article the description of said storm is “ Just some steady light rain at times with little to no wind to worry about.”.

Yeah it’s kind of hard to classify it as a “storm” not really a real summer storm like 8/29/15. That was a real summer storm.

Latest gfs run still looking wet with another batch of rain next Thursday hitting western WA and OR right when I’m supposed to be headed to Timothy lake near mt.hood on the 18th lol.

Overall there seems to be a couple days with decent weather like Friday and Saturday but also a couple with some possible showers over the next 10 days.

My brother is coming over from Bend on the 18th. Models are suggesting that day will probably be a washout.

Going to be around mt.hood at the same time doing some snowboarding at timberline and camping at lake Timothy. Looks like I picked the wrong time to go down there.

12z Euro seems to keep lower heights over us late this week and the weekend compared to last night’s run. Probably still a lot of pleasant days mainly in the 70s after a soaking rain, though. Can’t ask for much more moving into mid-July.

Phil, are you guys going up to Hippa Island lodge again when you are here in the PNW again this summer?

The Hippa Island lodge is being repaired, so we’re going to a smaller makeshift lodge father to the south.

The surface maps are unusually consistent throughout the run... highs in the mid to upper 70s in Seattle and around 80 in Portland almost every day after tomorrow.

You staying in Everett again before heading up there? We should all have a “Phil is coming to town” get together!

67 at 12:30pm. Even though it’s cloudy there’s still pretty good visibility, can see the Olympics and cascades still. Just a bit hazy and light SW breeze.

What are we thinking about August? Anything? Thinking about baked Alaska and how odd the weather pattern seems.

Some on here seem to think we will have a smoke filled month like last year. I don’t really see that happening.

Welcome back to the forum!

If I were to guess I would say it ends up significantly hotter than July. These days it’s hard to get a near average summer month without paying dearly for it at some point later in the season.

Temp has gone from 67 up to 71 in the last hour but it feels warmer than 71 outside right now. It’s humid as well with the dew point at 65 and the humidity at 81%.

Got warmer than I was expecting today considering the clouds and light rain at times. Got up to 73 here. Flow must be slightly offshore ahead of the low.

Looks like a more decent slug of rain will be moving in soon, has picked up here and the temp is down to 70.

I went with a cooler than normal August in the contest. But I was also expecting July to be warm and it might still be but looks like it's going to be around seasonal. I'm still going for a cool August though.

Hi, how's Japan!?

It’s wonderful, thanks for asking! Feeling pretty homesick for dear old PDX, but I have only a little less than a week left :)
