July 2019 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Heat misers are the worst.

I can’t wait until the next strong La Niña year.

Would be fun if we could make up for the dryness of the last couple years all at once and go full 2016-17. Timberline had a 100” base by Christmas that year, and I can imagine Meadows was similar. Also 1/10/17 was a really fun event. The December 2016 event actually yielded quite a bit of snow in my area if I recall, as well.

Sunriver was absolutely buried in snow that Christmas and New Year, and it was wonderful. Also I experienced subzero temps there.

Also, IIRC, no one really expected 2016-17 to be cold and wet until it actually happened. In fact, some predictions were actually saying that winter would be warm and dry.

Your complaining hasn't been that bad imo. It has been way worse on FB in the PDX area weather groups. Which is funny because we have seen a lot of sun down here. The 4th was absolutely beautiful.

Brian Schmidt and Whine7 have probably been losing their minds.

Low to mid 70s right now in W. Oregon. Looks like PDX is running a -0.8 departure and SLE and EUG are at -0.3. You'd think from all the bitching we were having April like weather. It's going to be funny in 6 months when people are referring back to our "cold July" that probably will end up 1-2F above normal.

Yeah, it hasn't been that bad. The humidity this week has made it feel warmer than it's actually been.

Tell them that they’re lucky Portland is as warm as it is being at 45.5°N latitude. If the Earth spun the other way, the PNW would have a climate similar to Hokkaido or Sakhalin.

Portland really is warm for its latitude. It’s on the west coast, influenced by a warm current, and its geographical position in a valley results in warm summers. If the Coast Range didn’t exist, we’d probably average in the low-mid 70s in summer.

Wow, you guys must be TIGHT.

We're FB friends. I've never hung out with Brian, but I used to hang with Erik a lot, but the 2016 election kind of fractured the "hated 8." But I have no personal issues with him. In my experience he is a good guy.

1) I've actually lived on the Greenland Ice Sheet for a few summers and many of those days were spent sweating in a T-shirt overheating. The amount of sunscreen required was absurd.

2) I know I'm just supposed to lurk but, as many have pointed out, classic summer sunny days in the NW are actually pleasant, if not downright perfect. So people aren't 'heat-misers', they're just longing for those ideal summer nights.

Lurking is creepy.

12Z ECMWF surface maps still look about the same... highs mostly in the mid to upper 70s in Seattle and either side of 80 in Portland through next week.

Only real precip outside of some mountain showers appears to be on Sunday into Monday with a small c-zone focused around Randy's area.

Hopefully that changes.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

If the earth spun the other way Portland would probably be a desert, and quite a bit hotter in the summer with much more frequent offshore flow/downsloping. Our summers are actually very representative of our latitude, winters however are not.

Are you trolling or serious? It rarely gets above freezing at the summit of the ice sheet.

Im going to say the way some of you guys talk, there has to have been some double male bathroom emblems on the door at some point.

What’s it like to be a virgin suffering from sex addiction? Sounds like a miserable life.

Had sex last night and this morning. But you keep with your weather geekiness and pipe dreams of what my life is like.
