Have to water a little after planting.  Then it usually rains enough in May and June to avoid needing to water much.    That wet humid pattern in early June last year was very garden-friendly.

Speaking of past convective events, today marks 20 years since a pretty great warm core thunderstorm outbreak in the Portland metro on the evening of 4/29/03. Had a quick downpour with some hail and then followed it up with 4-5 hours of frequent to near continuous lightning. Made an impression on me since it followed a completely disastrous winter and pretty much marked our first interesting weather in 6+ months.

I remember that one pretty vividly. We were staying temporarily with some friends in Salmon Creek at the ol’ Highland Hills Apts. and got rocked. Had some legit flash flooding in the parking lot thanks to suspect retaining wall on the backside of what at the time was a brand new complex. Definitely the most frequent lightning I’ve experienced on this side of the mountains too. It snowed a few months later!

Sucks for you!

Trees should be leafed out by the end of April in western WA and OR.

Sucks? It is beautiful today!

Pretty stupid overachievement today. I definitely didn’t miss this.

Yeah it’s really crazy how some places especially PDX can overachieve on heat so easily. I feel like the models are always about at least 3-5 degrees cooler than what actually happens at PDX. I overachieved by 3 degrees today forecast high was 76 and ended up hitting 79 again but at least yesterday underachieved IMBY by 2 degrees.

We were there for about two months during the move and the one thing that struck me was they were huge and had incredibly thin walls (I think the neighbors MAY have fornicated at one point). During the flood I think four units ended up with about a foot of water in them. The amount of water coming off the backside of Mt. Vista was pretty incredible. Storm just seemed to pulse/repulse over us.

Yeah and they still have a little drainage area on the eastside of the complex that seems to fill up pretty regularly in the winter. I've noticed ducks in there from time to time when driving up the hill on 29th.

I didn’t specify what I was specifically calling crap. The beauty is independent of the current temperature.

Already back into the 50’s (57) after a high of 78.
Ripped out a vine maple and salal that was taking over, was toasty in the sun. Will be putting a few things in there that will look better. Oh and my dog had a very busy day…

That looks like Wawawai Landing. We went on a hike there in March. Wow that place looks packed! We went to Hells Gate State Park, which was very quiet in the morning. There was a county fair just upriver on the opposite bank though.
