jaster220 8344
The mean meteorological winter temperatures were well above average across west Michigan and that keep the lake effect snow fall down. The 3 month mean at Grand Rapids was 30.7° At Muskegon it was warmer still at 31.4° and to the east at Lansing it was 30.0° all were well above average. For meteorological winter the snow fall was 41.7” at Grand Rapids for the winter season so far it is 48.7” at Muskegon the meteorological winter snow fall was just 39.4” and for the season they are now at 50.3” and to our east at Lansing the meteorological winter snow fall was 36.9” and for the season they are at 42.7” While Muskegon and Grand Rapids are much below average in the snow fall department Lansing is near average. I thought I'd be lacking in the LES dept as well, but surprisingly I'm at 27% (I consider ~25% normal). Ofc, I can't really parse lake enhancement from pure LES in those events that contain both so an event on the same day is weighted as mostly Lehs/LES or mostly synoptic. I simply divide between obvious synoptic snow, and anything that is >50% helped by the lake due to a cold NW flow component like the surprise Arctic CF the week before Christmas for instance. Were it not for that 2.5", my LES percent would've been closer to 20% and below avg here as well. 1 Quote Winter 2020-21 Snow Total = 35.1" Largest Storm: 10.2" (2/15-16) Oct: 0.0 Nov: 1.5 Dec: 3.6 Jan: 10.0 Feb: 20.0 Mar: 0.0 Apr: 0.0 Annual avg for mby = 49.7" Avg for last 10 seasons = 58.4" (118% of normal) 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918
Beltrami Island 428
As a whole, the nation was about 110% of normal in the snowfall dept and primarily focused in the inter-mountain west. Where do you get 110% from? I don't even understand how that can be calculated for the entire nation.I am curious what the second map looked like for 2016-2017, especially for the west. Most of that map would be dark green for the west.

Tom 16887
Another 3 "incher" in the books for ORD from that over-performing system last weekend that produced widespread 3-5", local 6" reports in the southern counties. ORD topped out at 3.2" bringing the seasonal snow fall total passed the 30" mark (30.1") which is 4.1" below normal in the snow dept. Last year ORD had 41" of snow and felt more like "Winter" unlike this past season. I think we can all say good bye to winter and welcome Spring....till next year...

Still only 66% of average, but solidly away from the top 10 least snowiest seasons at least - even though I feel it should be with that group lmao. westMJim 1863
Unlike the Detroit area here on the west side of the state the snow fall totals are well below average by 2 feet or more. Here are the latest totals (should be the total for the season) are at Grand Rapids for April 2.2" for the season just 53.5" At Muskegon April the total is April just a trace and for the season 51.9" all most 42" below average. At Lansing the numbers are 1.2" for April and 45.9 for the year. That is -4.8" below average. Over at Detroit they have had 4.9" of snow fall this April and now have 43.3" for the season. At Flint they have had 0.2" this April and have seen 52.7" for the season up at Saginaw they have had just a trace this month and only 34.3" on the season. UP north where they could still see some more snow here is their listhttps://www.weather.gov/apx/snow And last but not least Marquette Has recorded 20.5" this April and they have had 204.4" for the season so far and still can get more. As of this morning they still had 24" on the ground.

It can be real problematic in terms of getting accurate final snowfall amounts at times when the snow season is done. I've seen different numbers from each person, especially from public observers. Either way, congrats on the 35" anyways. Could be a lot lowered than that... Quote Snowfall as of today: Feb, 2021: 41.2"

We had several small events in March and April that I measured at my house and got one amount, but NWS Hastings always seemed to lower amounts for the area.
