Hoping that up here in the West Hills I'll be able to see a few snowflakes Saturday night into Sunday morning. Should be quite the gusty day tomorrow as the easterly winds ramp up.

NWS is really convinced that snow will not really fall, at 8 PM they updated our forecast to 20% chance Saturday night after 10 PM and then a 40% chance of rain Sunday. All models say otherwise.

I thought we were doing the reverse physiology thing ?

Anyhow it snows every night now through the 24th on snowflake lane at 7pm regardless of cloud cover or temp

Good thing is this cold snap turned out not so cold. Makes the chances of this being the coldest it gets over the next 10 weeks or so fairly unlikely.

I feel like we did okay with lows, highs were a bit warmer than I had been hoping.

I was mostly commenting on the fact he talked extensively about the rest of winter being warmer than this. I could see mentioning it in passing, but not making a huge deal about it. On top of that the ECMWF is already showing a strong signal for late December cold. Going warm for the rest of the winter is more of a longshot than anything right now.

That's when I think things will really start getting interesting again. Not expecting much until then.

No one knows what is going to happen.  Reset is just one person's belief as to what will happen "generally".

Just because blocking has been a theme up to this point doesn't mean we'll have a few weeks of westerlies and mountain snow and then return to persistent blocking.

I think Jim would like that but no one really knows for sure.

Sometimes these patterns tend to repeat themselves.

Personally, I don't think this recent pattern has been that great.  Bunch of blocking with split flow hell and it has culminated or will be known to have culminated with a big storm going into basically Northern California.

A repeat of that?  No thanks!

A repeat of that, no thanks.

That's why a reset will be a good thing.  When the block comes back (which the odds are very high it will) the details will probably be a bit different.  We really weren't as far from this being good as you think.  It's all small details.

I'm just saying if you look at the context this season the likelihood of not getting cold again is pretty slim. The propensity for blocking is unmistakable and we are in the deepest solar min in over 100 years. Not to mention the fact October usually sets the tone for winter in non El Nino seasons.

Not disagreeing with you at all. It was such a blanket statement that Mark probably didnt want interpreted as a forecast. And it is true, the first cold snap could be the coldest one, or it could just be the first of many. And you can say that every year without it meaning anything.

That's pretty classic timing for our really good winters.

There might be at least a decent chance this is the coldest PDX gets this winter, especially considering any true inversion cold will probably keep things breezier around that pesky airport.

I hope Jesse is OK. That guy targets like 3 people when someone says it's going to be too warm. Even blocks people for saying snow is going to change to sleet.

Unfortunately for you, you openly alluded to the upcoming one. Sorry not sorry.

That’s the thing about MLK’s, 11-20’s and Thanksgivings.

There’s always another one upcoming. Preliminary indications are that next Thanksgiving looks mild and stormy.

Just because they appear they are upcoming doesn't mean they will happen, everytime they do though is a win for us, kinda!!

I'm hoping my elevation comes in handy, the WRF actually does show a lick of snow in the West Hills. We'll see, wind should be ripping tomorrow too.
