jaster220
GRR.. .UPDATE...Issued at 1120 AM EST Mon Nov 11 2019Will not be making any changes to the current winter wx advisoriesat this time. The synoptic snow has been over-performing thismorning in spots (namely the GRR area) with totals nowapproaching 5" underneath the more intense and persistent FGENbands. Inch per hour snow was observed earlier here at the NWSoffice by the airport. Total snow amounts will need tweaked a bitto account for this. The area of synoptic snow is now beginning to snow signs ofpivoting and trend over the next few hours should be for adiminishing trend on the west/northwest edge of the snow shield. This includes the GRR area. Meanwhile, the trend in the JXN areashould be for more intense snowfall to occur this afternoon, probably leading to a rough evening commute in the I-69 area. The intense lake effect snow band that is supposed to impact theLudington area is out there per radar mosaics, but has beenholding just offshore all morning. It`s still expected to comeonshore at Ludington, but probably not until after 4 PM when windsgo more northerly - per the latest hi-res guidance. The heavierlake effect bands around South Haven meanwhile should commencearound 7 PM this evening. 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918

Tom
I just came back from doing some grocery shopping and can't help but think about the holidays. The holiday season is almost here and I'm sure we will be tracking many more systems during the Holiday season stretch. Both ORD & MDW are reporting record daily snowfall tallies through 10:00am. Light snow is still falling so some minor accumulations are still likely. ORD has 3.0" and MDW 2.5"....widespread 3-6" totals across N IL which is basically what the models were showing. Not bad at all.

jaster220
Happy B Day bud! I just came inside from shoveling the snow and thought the same. It really does feel like January out there! Minus the leaves that are still on the trees and ground, the powder flying off the roofs is wild to see this early in the season. I remember someone on here a few years ago commented on one of the legendary seasons back in the late 70's that started off in a similar fashion like we are seeing this year with multiple cold & wintry systems that began targeting our region in Nov and never let go through the rest of the season. Are we heading that way this year??? I strongly believe so. Haha, that would've been me posting about '77-78 which hit S. Bend with a 24" LES storm that November, and ofc the CAT-5 bliz in January which gave at least 30" if not more to that region. If we indeed get bigger storms going deeper into the cold season, there's no stoppin this train from possibly (dare I say) overtaking that vaunted season. 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918

jaster220
Looks like those SR hi-res models that kept amping this up and increasing totals around SCMI are going to end up correct. Guessing GRR was still feeling snake-bit from the Halloween miss, thus were reluctant to buy into them this go-round. One could tell tho, that this would be a completely different thermal scenario. Oh well, got a bunch of the white gold, so I'm personally a very happy camper. 3 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 53.1" (90% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.3 Apr: 0.1 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = 53.1" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918
Stacsh
Thought this wasn't your storm Go about 20 miles north and west and it wasn't. The models did a good job showing the band set up right across the metro area. I'm downtown at work, but judging by watching radar all day I'm guessing my neighborhood did about 5" as well. Still ripping out there and it will continue to do so for several more hours. Accumulations just by looking outside my window looks definitely 7"+. Later on I will go and take a measurement.
