So sad...

Both types of bananas grow fast and produce big leaves, and if summers are long and hot enough, we may see flowers as well. Sadly none of the bananas can produce edible fruit in Portland; our hot season is just not long enough.

The recent pattern sure has flipped the anomalies off the west coast.   And seems like the upcoming pattern will continue the same trend.

@Phil I know you say this has a warm bias but this map was showing much colder than normal water water along the entire west coast just a couple weeks ago.  So apples to apples... it has warmed up significantly.  And the tropical tidbits site shows the same turn around.

I agree. This ended up a lot like May 2018. I’d set the over/under on 90 degree days for PDX at 32.

Except the mountains and eastsides got doused with thunderstorm rain. Next ridge is looking convective as well.

Nice... our potatoes are so big already.    They look like they usually do in mid to late June.

Would be a pity if your gardener spilled roundup all over those.

This is all I use…Roundup will probably end up killing me someday with the many thousands of gallons I sprayed way back in my golf course days. (8 years to be exact between the late 90’s to mid 2000’s)

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

This will surely be a controversial opinion, but glyphosate is the greatest pesticide of all time. I go through a ton of the stuff. I’m not afraid to use it near my beehives. The only rule, which can never be broken, is to not directly spray flowers with it or it will kill the bees. Spray the leaves.

It’s literally the only thing standing between us and being completely overrun with invasive plants. It’s incredibly effective against almost all of our worst invasives. The conservation districts around here go through the stuff (and/or triclopyr) by the truckload. Yet it is non toxic to animals, doesn’t spread to neighboring plants, doesn’t linger in the soil, etc etc. Truly a miracle substance.

If it gets banned, what ends up happening is that much nastier stuff gets used instead.

(I should add that I mostly hand weed in the garden but I have a restoration area where I’m battling invasive plants that constantly resprout if they are not treated).

Trough remains over the PNW, so why are things warming up for the middle of the week?

Because the trough is splitting and moving east up here.

Ugh. It really is beautiful weather but it's showing up way too early. My grass is already turning yellow.... By the time Independence Day comes along, it'll be parched, and the soil will be stiff like clay. That is an August thing, if we ever do manage get that way during the warm season.

I think even you'd agree that it would have been best to wait another month before completely drying out like this. Let's hope June brings some appreciable rainfall.

I would prefer it never totally dry out in the summer.  I like the consistent warmth... but would be much better with a soaking rain every 7-10 days.    We had a good soaking here on Monday so we are good this week but would be nice to see the next round in sight.

Looks like Los Angeles and Seattle have permanently switched places.

I heard Andrew has had enough of this new climate up here and is packing up his family and moving to LA so he can once again bask in cool weather.

12Z GFS is warmer on all 3 days of the holiday weekend compared to its 00Z run and that run was warmer than the 12Z run yesterday.

I think Randy's forecast might improve a little more.  👍

What mixture of these do you use? How long is it effective?

This is how I feel as well. I enjoy the sunny weather but it seems like we dry out in May lately, which is too soon.
