Colorado is legit beautiful. Can see the snowcapped Pikes Peak from my hotel window. 🏔️

Guessing the smoke is gone now?   I work with a couple people who live in the Denver area and they were telling me how bad it was there last weekend.

Looks like you are missing out on a cool holiday weekend in DC!

Phil says no 4CH this summer... and have no reason to doubt him right now.    He has been right on target so far this spring.

Lol, we’ll see. I don’t know about “no” 4CH, but should be nothing like the last 2+ years which was endless 4CH. Could still see it appear briefly at times with MJO/subseasonal cycles.

Our tomatoes have been outside since late April and are thriving and have tripled in size already.   I don't see anything ahead that will cause any issues for them.

Not sure about his location but mine have been in the ground for about 10 days.  The May long weekend is the traditional planting time that most people use as a guide. But you can usually get away with even earlier.  Cucumbers are a little less cold tolerant and I always direct seed them.  They are up and growing already which is a nice jump on the season.

We also plant cucumbers from seed.    They failed last May and we had to go buy actual plants which we put out in early June and they ended up doing great.   This year we planted cucumbers from seed in late April and they are way up now so we should get good production.

12Z GFS goes nuts with the heat next weekend... 12Z GEM is much more tame but appears to be trending warmer compared to previous runs.

Probably the first time I’ve used that works in years heh. I actually hate writing with a passion. Easier to type a bunch of acronyms than spell things out.

But I was the kid in elementary school that always chose the hardest words from the word pool to memorize for spelling tests. Because school was boring af otherwise. 😆

As good as the EPS is now, it’s about to get a lot better. Leaving the rest of guidance in the dust.

Meanwhile, the last GFS upgrade arguably made it worse.

You must always have chilly nights in the summer then.   But I don't think 40ish degrees really hurts them... they just slow down until it warms up again.

Sunny and 69 now.   Day started off sunny then the marine layer came in around 9:30 and stuck around for about 3 hours.   Made for a perfect morning of trying to re-establish the boundaries of our landscaped yard from nature trying to claim it back.

What's the coldest you've seen in that area before?

Dec 21/Jan 22 had a week straight below zero. A few nights at 2-3 degrees. Never seen below zero. That winter killed two plum trees and all my potted roses

You are probably right, but I have tomatoes on most of my plants. Started from seed in February. I’m trying not to stunt them

I get it...  their your babies!   My wife went to the store and bought our tomato plants in the morning and they were in the ground that afternoon (4/29).   We didn't get a chance to become protective of them.  😀

But there is no way they would have done as well as they are doing right now if they had been inside.  They absolutely took off and show no signs of slowing down.

There are 7 weather stations placed within a mile of where I live in Eastside Tacoma. Ranging between 66-70° right now 67° overall. Never understood why mets always try to predict one single temp we should be giving out ranges instead.

SEA was stuck at 65 at 3 p.m.

73 in North Bend now and here... perfect temp.   Barely a cloud in the sky.   The ECMWF was too pessimistic with low cloud coverage this afternoon.

Woke up to dark and overcast skies. Had about .05 on the rain guage with light rain until we reached the L-C valley. Went hiking at Chief Timothy, on Silcott Island. Owned by the army corps just a few miles west of Clarkston on the Asotin county side of the river (Whitman is the other). It was a nice morning for a hike and became sunny near the end. It was 74F at home when I checked about twenty minutes ago. It's absolutely perfect and cooler than I expected. Son is in the pool.

The first picture is looking upriver on the Snake towards Clarkston which is not visible.

If Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano does fully blow, I wonder what implications is could have on our climate?  We theorized what other's have may have done, giving us cooler periods in the PNW.  Hopefully people there have had plenty of time to get away.

73/55 day here so far. Could go lower by midnight. Nice day with morning clouds and some spotty drizzle then cooler with clear skies and a nice breeze this afternoon. PDX overachieved again and hit 75. Overall observed weather and temp wise this May would have made a pretty nice June.

Beautiful day up here in Bellingham.  I didn't get a chance to take any pictures but I ventured down to the waterfront to drop a kayak off for a friend who is doing ski to sea.  Temp was nice but it was pretty blustery with whitecaps on the bay.  They run a 3 mile short course that stays closer to shore when the water is rough (I think 15kn is the threshold) If the race was today, it probably would have been a short course day.  I think the winds will be calmer tomorrow so hopefully they get to do the full 5 mile course.

Here at the house the temp topped out at 72 after a low of 53.

Our February weather would have made a good December... March would have made a good January... April would have made a good February.  It was unusually cold.    Now May would have made a good June.

Absolutely beautiful day. Morning clouds and enough afternoon sun for the kids not to completely freeze during their water balloon fight at my youngest daughters 6th birthday party.
