Some straitform rainfall would be so nice. Really starting to look like mid summer here with the grass turning brown in the last week or two. Besides the decent soaking rain in early May the faucet basically shut off in late April. Not that the faucet was ever really on much this rainy season.

Yeah driving around the south valley yesterday it was really noticeable. Especially on drier rocky south facing slopes near the foothills.

Mostly cloudy in Salem this morning. A brief respite from summer hell. Kids camped out in the yard last night, they seemed to sleep well despite the seasonal temperatures.

This happened 3 years ago. It was an amazing thunderstorm outbreak.

We took a big “storm chasing” drive during that event. North up I-5 then east on 12 over White Pass to 97, then up over Satus Pass and home through the Gorge. Saw a ton of thunder and lightning near Kelso and also Lewis and Clark state park by Mossyrock that morning. Then it calmed a bit before we hit a big cell just north of Satus Pass later that afternoon. Very heavy rain, hail, wind and lots of thunder and lightning.

Sun has finally started to break out here in the past 30 minutes or so.  I can't complain too much, we had a gorgeous weekend with very little in the way of clouds.

New ECMWF weeklies just released... looks generally warm.

ecmwf-weeklies-avg-namer-t850_anom_7day-1685318400-1685923200-1689292800-10.gif

Looks like the focus of those anomalies shift more towards the center of the country at least. We are never going to have a "cool" or "wet" summer, but we could have one a little less hot than the past two. Sustained warmth as opposed to sustained heat. The difference between EUG or SLE having a top 3 warm July or August and just one in the top 25.

65 and mostly sunny here.  Gorgeous day with colder air aloft mixing out the marine layer here.   Marine layer appears to be focused around Randy's area.   It's mostly sunny in Seattle now as well.

Up in Salem it was mostly cloudy, but there were breaks even earlier this morning in the layer.

You can see more low clouds from Salem/north. They are very thin.

Samesies. Booked it east on I90 across the Gorge, then hooked south to Othello and eventually to Kennewick. Got smacked by severe criteria outflow and ended up in a polygon of my own!

Latest Ag Weather Update mentioned that we are in uncharted territory now with so much warmer than normal water across the globe.   They could not find an analog which included most of the North Pacific, ENSO, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic all being so warm at the same time.   Don't know if that is accurate or not.

May is running +4.4F as of this morning. Record warm May seems like a lock as of now. It’s been a solid summer like month with just 0.69” of rain MTD. Only 0.09” in the last 3 weeks.

Interestingly enough, though this month is a lock for warmest May ever at SEA and PDX, it will not be at OLM, Landsburg, Battle Ground, downtown Portland, KVUO, etc.

Can't wait to see Jesse's emotional/sexual reaction to this one!
