It's been a while since Downtown L.A. has seen 75 F (November 24), and it's not too surprising with Winter Solstice just a week away. However, today looks more like a June Gloom day than a December rainy day or cool partly cloudy day. A Santa Ana is expected by tomorrow, but this will be a cold one. After that it looks like a weak storm late next week and possibly a stronger one right before Christmas.

So it's going to be cool for a while, unlike some of the last few winters here.

When do you think is the next time Downtown L.A. will see 75 F, 80 F, and 90 F.

Since November 20, there have been very few instances of high pressure ridging or offshore flow episodes to warm temperatures at all, and when it did happen, it was weak at best. Instead it has been mostly cool with occasional wet patterns. Southern California would have to see much stronger ridging during these winter months to get much warmer temperatures (like in 2017-18), which I hope does not happen as it likely means a very dry winter. In an ENSO-Neutral winter, anything can happen. Fall was warm and dry until suddenly it wasn't - it completely flip-flopped. Personally, I hope for cool temperatures and persistent troughs to continue through at least March, but it's likely we'll see some moderate ridging at some point between now and then.
