Crazy I might have to worry about the rain/snow line in N. WI this time of year. I’ll make a $100 donation to a charity selected by the forum if Eagle River gets 6”+ out of this system and a $250 donation if I get 10”+. Might as well make it interesting and support a good cause during this awful December.

hearing several unofficial reports of 8-12" in nearby areas.  Where can I find official reports?  I think eagle river airport is a NWS station.

Here at my yard I measured anywhere between 1 up to 8" and I rounded off 6 readings it 5"

There was 1/4" of slush underneath as well.  the ground was warm and the initial snowfall melted and compacted some.  My measurements averaged 5.5".  Not much drifting.

Snow has picked up again, might squeeze out another half inch of LES.

NOAA:

Snowfall accumulations around 1 to 3 inches will fall by thisafternoon as an upper level disturbance moves across the GreatLakes. Additional light accumulations will occur this afternoon as wetransition to a lake effect pattern.

Looks like I will be adding to my inch of snowfall received from last nite :D

SW winds kept this from going above the minimum here, but I'm happy camper as it was enough to refresh the plow piles to keep the winter feel around during warm rainers, lol. Time to give credit to my office for doing a generally good job with their WWA. The winds didn't get westerly enough for the far south/SE counties to score above the low end, but overall a nice job still. With the time delay between higher winds and actual snow portion of the event they could've done a Wind Advisory, but we all know their love affair with all things purple.  ;)

I did manage to get about 35 miles north of GR to a small town of White Cloud and Newaygo region where the 6-8" amounts really were a solid hit. Soooo nice to see winter for however long it sticks around. Congrats to all who got this nice holiday gift.

Thanks bud! Say, I noticed a couple reports from Macomb Cnty (not the city of..) and they were both 2.5" or so. Also, this summary map looks like your region did at least as well as Marshall, no?

Glad to hear most of our members around the GL’s were able to finish off the month with some appreciable snow. It was finally nice to see snow on my Christmas decor after a Spring like Christmas holiday season. Congrats WI & MI peeps for scoring a decent hit!

It was coming down really hard for a moment last nite as we were headed for the NYE party. For a min, it was kinda difficult to see the road under poor visibility. Winter Wonderland outside today. January sure did entered wintry. I am guessing that is a great sign. :D

Isn't it nice to finally see snow OTG???  Most of my snow will prob melt by end of today but there are more chances down the road.  Enjoy it while it lasts.

Sure does feel awesome....Also, models are trended towards an accumulating snowevent for the weekend system.

NOAA: The 00Z operational GFS

made a signficant move toward this ECMWF solution, where prior runs

were showing much less phasing of this inbound upper Mississippi

River Valley shortwave. Trends are becoming more favorable for a

changeover to snow leading to an accumulating snow event across the

southern and eastern cwa roughly 09Z Saturday - 21Z Saturday.

I wish my area could get these widespread 12+" storms.

Instead, they go around you to the north. Just something not right about that. Even here they are not that common like they seem to be out there in Dakotas and MN. 12-18" storms happen in the LES belts, but outside that zone, nasso much.

A large chunk of southern Manitoba has less than 2" of snow cover right now. That makes as much sense as anything after they got a 30+" snowstorm in early October. Synoptic snowfall arial coverage is fickle. I can remember stretches when a 6" snowfall for eastern ND and nw MN seemed like it would take a miracle.
