The upwelling has caused sea surface temperatures to take a nosedive lately, which explains why we are having colder mornings in July than in May for Downtown L.A.

Orange and San Diego counties are not affected as much by this unfortunate incident.

Upwelling is great for marine life.

Yesterday Santa Cruz had a high of 78 while Monterey had a high of 65. They are on opposite sides of the Monterey Bay. Salinas, which is about 8 miles inland, had a high of 69.

 

Most days the wind is from the northwest, which helps to clear out Santa Cruz. However when wind is from the south, Monterey tends to be sunnier than Santa Cruz.
