Pn1ct0g3n
Looking lively over the mountains today. Probably the last hurrah for monsoon season.
Pn1ct0g3n
We got to 82!! I think that’s the highest point MB has reached all summer. The sea breeze has stayed weak, allowing magic to happen. Only a late spring offshore wind event surpassed it.
Thunder98
Cooler, but still reasonable 77F today. Lots of mid level clouds and also some pop up thunderstorms in the Carrizo Plains.
Pn1ct0g3n
Much of the state’s interior, away from the stable ocean air, is lighting up with activity.

Thunder98
I spoke too soon, the stupid marine layer has came back again. Ugh what a tease! We need a big pattern change to get rid of this dam marine layer that has entrenched itself all late Spring and Summer on the Central Coast. Thunder98
Today is the first time since March 31st that the Sun Angle is below 60° in the sky in Orcutt.
Pn1ct0g3n
I saw some flashes in the distance around midnight but everything fell apart in the stable ocean air. Feh. You can tell the ocean hasn’t warmed up that much when the high was 82, but it fell to 68 the instant the sun went down. 65 now, if you’re within the fog. Foggy again, but it’s not as widespread today. It’s sad really; this year has been near-perfect to give us some boomers but a consistently strong Pacific High is having absolutely none of it. SD gets yet another pop up storm near Mission Valley.
Pn1ct0g3n
Cleared out quick around 9:30am but a lot of gunk remains offshore.
Pn1ct0g3n
Definitely another Godzilla Inversion, as evidenced by these steam plumes looping back on themselves. Note the fog in the background.

Pn1ct0g3n
How many days has it been clear over the Monterey Bay this summer? You could probably count them on your fingers. The lingering gunk is mostly gone here. Still almost 10° cooler than yesterday and much breezier. Inland temps are about the same.
AquariusRadar
More high level moisture sneaking through a hole in the wall and struggling to reach California from the ITCZ via Hawaii. The high circulation right off the coast has progress stalled. If some moisture reaches the state, even without a cyclone's help, California's baked in weather makers-daytime heating and orographic lifting-can make rain. Anti Marine Layer
More about the thunderstorms last night. They were pretty crazy with a few lightning strikes per minute. More like something in the Midwest or Florida. A house got struck by lightning in Aliso Viejo. https://www.dailynews.com/2021/09/10/quick-storm-with-heavy-rain-lightning-and-thunder-knocks-out-power-to-more-than-1000/
Reg
We had no thunderstorm activity here inland at all, although it was abnormally warm all last night, which is happening again today. Large, ominous cumulonimbus clouds were visible to the mountains east of here all day today, however I did not get a picture this time. Very strong Pacific high has kept our ocean cool and ensured that anything interesting fizzles out before it reaches the coast. Olaf is sadly expected to track west into the open ocean, away from us. Pn1ct0g3n
Very breezy. Knocked it down to 74-75 here after we peaked just shy of 80. Widespread 90s away from the coast, but that’s par for the course for September.

Thunder98
The Marine layer is now spreading into the South Coast. The SB south coast is covered in fog and the eastern edge has hit the Palo Verde area.
Pn1ct0g3n
When it reaches our area, it tends to “latch onto” the PV headland and roll north from there. Even on days with northwest winds, our marine layer seems to come from the south because of this. It’s something I puzzled over until I actually watched it on satellite.
