There was some dense ground fog at dawn today, but you wouldn’t have known it if you got up at a sane hour.

Otherwise a pretty typical late autumn day with beaches hovering around 70 and valleys still climbing into the 80s despite chilly nights.

What is a sane hour to get up?

2021 has all the earmarks of a classic La Niña year, from endless gloom in the warm season to rapid cool down in the fall (and fog when there isn’t an offshore event) to a worrying drought as winter approaches. We had a similar run of cooler ocean temps a decade ago before the warm pattern that defined most of the 2010s.

We need a soaker on the level of winter 2018-2019.

How rare is a totally rainless November for us? I’d imagine it’s pretty unusual. I can’t remember too many growing up.

Edit, I assume “x Novembers” means the number of times it’s happened since recordkeeping began. Only five times in SD, which should be pretty representative of other coastal cities too.

DTLA has reported the first rainless November in almost 30 years! Last time was 1992.
