1/10 - 1/11 Plains/Lower Lakes Major Winter Storm

About 2 inches of snow total here as the snowfall has pretty much ended in my backyard.

This likely qualifies as the biggest snowfall event I have seen yet this Winter- this “amazing” snow event finally ends the streak of 1 to 1 1/2 inch snowfalls. Time to go out and enjoy the freshly fallen white gold.

Just measured 2.3". Melted down was .33" but some of that was PL and even FZRA that I must have missed because the inside of the tube was coated in FZRA---. Heavier band about to move in, Miight just squeak out 4-5....

The two loudest sounds known to man: a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

What is causing the precip to fall as freezing rain? It is 30 degrees outside, below freezing so I would think it's cold enough for snow.

That little above-freezing nose just poking into the atmosphere above us is all it takes to ruin what could have been a nice snow event.

Radar CC loop suggests the snow line is not far from Cedar Rapids.  There is more sleet mixed into my rain now.

Oh? I've been sleeting for over 2 hours. Just goes to show how close the mixing is. On that note, I'm 80% snow at the moment, still a few pellets but not many.

So the snow line got close to Cedar Rapids, then decided to stall again.  I'm getting all sleet now.

This snow/sleet line is moving so slowly, the north side will probably get an inch before I see my first flake.  My window is still being pinged.

My temp has fallen to 29º after being stuck at 31 or 30 most of the day.

Fish forecast ofc, but always like to see mention of "Storm Force" winds  :)

Northeast gales peak near storm force around midnight

Saturday night over Lake Huron, especially over Central Sections
into Saginaw Bay.
