February 2020 (It's cold at the end of the run!)

Nice!

The land west of me is very nice. It rolls, it has open pastures that's dotted with very large umbrella shaped Live Oak Motts, Yucca, and cattle. Feels like a century ago. I wish I had images of my property on this computer but they're all put away. I'll have to dig them up and post a few. Just gorgeous and pure Texas land.

Now the UK is losing next week's storm.  The dominoes are falling in the wrong direction.

Tonight's Euro almost lost next week's storm, too.  There's not much left of it.  Northwest flow has taken over on all the models.

I noticed how much less snow there was OTG just 4 mi to my west as I drove back from the gym this morning in Arlington Hts. Some areas were barely covering the grass tips while IMBY there is solid 3” on my deck after compaction. It’s especially noticeable to see the roofs and cars topped off with a fresh layer of “fluff” from the LES. As the saying goes, “location, location, location”...looks like a true winter morning out there today.

Of course at that point is when it will decide to stay in the 30s through the middle of May :P

My hope is we have one of those big, late winter, early spring blizzard that has been fairly common in my area the last 5 years.  With those however, the snow doesn't last long with higher sun angle and warmer temps that usually follow.  I am just kind of resigned to the fact that the winter is not turning out anywhere near what I expected.

Fun note from NWS GRB about mid-week potential.

Rest of the forecast...After a seasonable day on Monday, models
advertise a weak shortwave could provide light snow on late Monday
night into Tuesday. Then focus turns to the southwest system for
the middle of the week. The pattern will be relatively similar to
the snowfall bust that occurred in the middle of January
. The
strength of the northern stream flow and surface high over the
northern Plains or central Canada will play a pivotal role regarding
the track of the system.

Meanwhile temperatures in Antarctica are running SIXTY degrees ABOVE NORMAL and this is after the warmest January for the planet on record.

That would be like Omaha being in the upper 90s right now. We rarely make it to 100 here in the dog days of summer.

My hometown in northwest Mississippi got about 3/4" of wet snow overnight. Not really an impressive amount even for there, but it's a miracle they managed to get measurable snow in such a terrible pattern.

The Euro Seasonal came in for Feb....cutter specials this month?  The LRC and BSR suggest we are about to kick into high gear, esp from next week on.  Next target storm date of the 17th-20th should be showing up on the models as it has been at times per the long range GFS.  It'll be interesting to see if the CFSv2 is right about popping the NW NAMER ridge while the EPS is suggesting the pattern goes back to an Alaskan trough.

Based on the 30mb warming pattern evolving now...I would more towards "Build the Ridge, Unleash the Fridge"...

Great. Let's melt-off enough ice cap to see just what they've been keeping secret down there  ;)

The Euro is a bit stronger than last night's run, but the darn nw flow is trying to squash it.  If that could back off a bit, we (NE/IA/WI, etc.) could get something decent from it (like what this morning's UK is showing).
