Next weekend is looking chilly, though moisture a bit sparse. Hopefully it works out again this time.

Conference call with corporate about our favorite little virus!

Conference calls are always a good source of inside information.

Make sure you mention the fact that the virus was created by Michael Bloomberg, in a blatant and desperate attempt to steal the presidency.

Some really good Bloomberg memes going around.

Euro shows a couple inches of snow up here on Friday night.

Anything for your favorite posters south of the border?

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

maybe Tim will post the pretty weatherbell maps but it looks like you’re in the gray. Phantom snow.

Sweet! I did pretty well with the phantom gray zone snow last month!

You and phil should have a lot to talk about then. I've always been one of the weirdos who likes both the left brain and right brain stuff.

Interesting. I hate the right brain stuff with a passion, but have always excelled at it in school. Meanwhile I’ve struggled with high level math/physics at times, yet keep returning for more beatings.

I’ll be a licensed expert shortly if all goes to plan.

Have you started grad school yet? One of the programs I'm looking at deals with arctic amplification/changes in the polar vortex and the downstream affects on the PNW, in terms of extreme events (heat/drought/heavy rainfall).

Sounds like it will be coding and statistics heavy research. I'm rusty with the former but enjoy the latter.

It's becoming pretty clear that this thing is no joke for the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

Might be reassuring for those of us who don't fall into those categories, but I have several family members that I sure hope don't catch it.

Yeah its bad news. That thing gets in a nursing home it can be game over for some of the residents. I think we probably have at least hundreds of people infected. If someone is asymptomatic or displaying mild symptoms they are probably not going to seek treatment or get tested.

I am equally afraid of potential panic.

Unfortunately trying to get people to take this threat seriously is equally challenging. No need to panic, but preparedness is key, because it is coming.

I think it's been here for quite awhile and people are just starting to get tested now so it's slowly becoming more apparent.

The thing that is confounding me is the fact the preparedness is that which should be practiced eternally. If you’re sick with a fever, stay home. Isolate yourself if you can. We have sick “protocols” at our residence to try to keep it from running through the household. Wash your hands, clean up after yourself and be mindful of those around you who may not practice the same.

My wife’s grandma is 90 and lives in an assisted living facility in Vancouver. If any of us have any kind of viral symptoms, we steer clear of visits just for the fact that any virus runs the risk of quickly spiraling out of control.

The biggest thing with this particular bug is that it apparently has such a long incubation period while most traditional “cold” viruses are (I think) around 48-72 hours...

As soon as the fever struck last Monday I went straight to bed and stayed away from the rest of the house as much as possible. If I needed to I washed my hands first and did not talk or cough to keep those little droplets in me and not on anyone else. So far I am the only one that caught the A! Funny thing is I am the biggest germaphobe of the family...And I’m the one that got sick. Pretty sure it was the Chatty Cathy that I had to sit next to on the plane.

Yeah, that last part is key. Apparently someone can have it for awhile, be asymptomatic, and still potentially contagious before they ever experience symptoms...if they ever do.

Pretty chilly surface temps out there despite 546dm thicknesses, normal 850hpa temps, and shadowed NW flow.

High of just 45 so far here after a low of 41. On and off drizzle much of the day.

48 at both PDX and HIO. A while back GFS was showing highs in the 43-44 range which turned out to be wrong. I was never expecting anything above 50 today but thanks for increasing my like counter by one.

Pretty surprised/relieved that the raw output didn’t verify.
