Pacific Northwest Weather -June 2023

Recommended Posts

Unusually breezy here this morning as well... appears to be a NE wind and we don't usually have a NE wind in the summer unless its a really hot pattern.   Today will struggle to get to 70.

The low clouds scoured out really fast this morning... going to be beautiful day.

Not sure I would call what have had "death ridging".    That has been focused more over the Midwest lately.

Over the last 15 days... SEA is at just +0.4 while Minneapolis has been +8.7 over the same period.

Side note... back in late April you predicted that the ridging would be focused over the middle of the country by the second of half of May.    You have been nailing it for the last few months... no joke.

Thanks. The intraseasonal cycles have been coherent and well expressed so far this year, hence the easier predictability.

Hopefully that continues to be the case!

This is the smoke map from the Canadian model for Tuesday evening.    Alberta smoke is taking a far northern track now but not sure of the source of that smoke in the NE part of the country.    Are there actually fires in eastern Canada?

Will Portland be hotter than Phoenix?

Technically that run did show Portland about the same as Phoenix at that time.    But that is 10 days out.

Interesting, as I was driving back from Lake Sammamish and got to the Skagit Valley around noon the sky seemed to be pretty hazy.  I was trying to figure out if it was smoke or just a marine haze....

Was deep blue here all day! Phil the sick tree looks amazing against the blue!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

12Z GFS is so vastly different than its 00Z run... the troughing just splits instead of parking itself over the PNW.   But ironically its also wetter with more moisture coming up from the ULL over CA.

Looks like leftover monsoon moisture. But doesn’t look like thunderstorms.

Fire situation in Quebec is pretty bad right now.  Also Nova Scotia just had their largest forest fire in history.  Parts of Halifax were also burned.  150 homes were damaged or destroyed.

Pretty day out. This morning has been breezy so far especially for this time of year. Seems like that’s more of a late afternoon and evening thing in the summer. On the cool side too, still just 58 after a low of 48.

I like how the heat event for this coming week has been whittled down to 1-2 days. Will be interested to see where the pattern goes after that, would be nice to get some precip wrapping around from the ULL spinning over the SW later this week.

Yeah... we are only at 5 pages.   So you are definitely exaggerating.    I am consistent all year long... but do enjoy summer the most of course.  Weather has been total perfection lately.   And almost perfectly climo in terms of temps.    As I mentioned... SEA is +0.4 for the last 15 days and didn't get above 70 for a week in there.

Yeah but there have been lots of morning clouds lately in one of the most famously sunny and pleasant climates in North America. Really gotta feel for those guys 😭

At very least it warrants the creation of about a dozen different threads.

There has actually been a notable lack of low clouds up here.   Pretty unusual as I have mentioned.

But I post about the weather that is happening all year long.    As you WELL know Jesse.   What is so funny is that you and Andrew post manically for months... and then get all bent out of shape when the weather is not what you want and people are still posting.    I told you it was coming.   And your pouting BS whiny sarcasm makes it sooooooo much more fun.  😀

I’ve sure been hating the Euro lately.

I thought you would like this run. End of the W-Canada ridge pattern is in sight which is evident in the NPAC WT on the 12z Euro.

The last frame looked somewhat promising but that’s pretty far out there. I mainly don’t like that it’s been putting us right back into a hot pattern next week, while meanwhile the GFS has been keeping us cooler into the LR.

Also the clock is ticking fast now on our window for anymore widespread precip on the west side before going into deep summer. By the last 1/3 of June it’s pretty much impossible to get a widespread stratiform rain event these days.

I'm impressed at the level of ego required in order to misconstrue Jesse's post as being about you. (Hint: it wasn't. It was about Mister Anti Marine Layer, who, along with creating multiple new threads about CA's persistent chilly pattern, also complains incessantly about it on threads where it is off-topic).

I know that particular post was about SoCal.   But it applies to both Jesse and Andrew.  From manically posting... to depression and telling everyone to stop talking about the weather.   So silly.
