April 2020 Observations and Discussion

Oh. Apparently I'm under an enhanced risk today. I haven't even been paying attention to weather recently lol.

I wonder why SPC issued a severe t-storm watch, with a mention of higher than normal tornado risk, instead of issuing a tornado watch in SE MI? I also wonder why they didn't include NW OH in the watch. They're on something tonight.

70.7*F.

Kudos to the HRRR.  All day it showed a good storm popping around Cedar Rapids at about 6pm.

Cedar Rapids hit 79º this afternoon.  Waterloo and Iowa City hit 80º.  Mother Nature will cut that in half next week.

My thermometer only shows a high of 78°, but dews are still in the middle 60°s. Feeling like summer.

Here's how the storms looked from my place when they were over CR. Looking north across the neighbors farm.

Wow, flipping through some twitter feeds from last night and confirmation from my family back home, it certainly was an active evening last night with plenty of severe storm reports.  One of my best friends was at Busse Woods out on the trails and said they were packed with people enjoying a beautiful day.  He said it felt like summer with a strong breeze and later in the evening storms blew up all across NE IL.

12km NAM coming into range for the Easter potential. 12z run shows liquid precip at the start but by hr84 it looks like a potential phaser in the works that would likely pull down the colder air from Canada. Globals took a step back overnight other than the garbage GFS.

12z ICON showing a wound up Blizzard...'18 Redux in the mix!

It's a very muggy 84 here, I've had back to back 8o degree days. 12z GFS and ICON look cold and wet.

Now, that is a word that hasn't been used here in awhile. :D Cant wait for that word to be included in my forecast.

Btw: How ya been Clinton. Too bad we all have to be prudent w this covid going on and not enjoy this beautiful weather today outside.

The strong cells moving out of southeast Iowa and into Illinois are dropping huge hail (up to 4").

Was very nice here as well before a strong cf blew through here early this afternoon around 1:00pm or a bit after. Then there was a strong nw wind and now it's feeling chilly. If the front would've been a bit slower we might've gotten a storm and almost did the way it was. Just hoping it doesn't get to cold because things are really budding. Should be ok if it doesn't fall below 29° or so tomorrow night etc.
