All that said and Tacoma still averages at least one 80+ degree day in May. It's not unusual which is how this all began.

Looks like approximately 0.7 per year since 1981 now that I’ve found the data. So less than one per year. But lol, that’s literally the first question I asked re: climatology and return frequency at that location.

 

And FWIW, I never claimed it was a rare phenomenon. I said it was surprising to me that it would be “normal” to see such large departures. I never asked about PDX, San Diego, or Jamaica.

A very fall-like pattern shaping up over the next couple of weeks on the 0z GFS. A steady stream of lows rolling in from the GOA is not particularly common at this time of year. Generally I'd expect to see more cutoffs and inland sliders.

Two shirts in the dryer! Just got done putting a tarp over my work area outside.  I be drenched! 
Working on a fancy fence in the carport so bad people don’t just walk into the backyard.  I also moved my weather equipment to that location but looks like rain amounts our not matching up with my local stations.  Could be pollen in the cups so will check for that later on.  Also could be that I’m not far enough away from the house.  About 15 feet.  Anyhow, will monitor.

Recent GFS and EURO runs have been showing rain at some point basically every day for the next 10 days. Quite the inverse of last spring...we had no rainfall in the final week of April and the first half of May last year a record 21 day dry streak.
