May 2020 Observations and Discussion

St Paul Storm

Recommended Posts

Well either the equipment at Charlevoix, MI's obs site is malfunctioning or something catastrophic is occuring there. Last three hourly temps: 76, 11, -12. Hell of a lake breeze!

It now has gotten even worse the latest reading was reported as -14 with a DP of -16. But then again it is 49 at Mackinac Island.

We have went from dry to wet rather quickly.

What was your total over the past couple days? I took the family to Lake Wanahoo over the weekend in our camper and got quiet the storm over night on saturday. We had 75 mph winds and my neighbors tail gating tent went flying 60 yards! I had my mom keep track of my rain gauge and we ended up with 4.5" of rain with possibly more tomorrow!

Lows by weeks end will be in the 40s and highs in the 60s. Nice, refreshing push of cool, Canadian air coming once that CF rolls on through by the end of the week.

Absolutely gorgeous outside w not a cloud to be found. Temp is at 81F. I dont think the record was broken today. I dought temps even made it to the mid 80s here in Macomb. Most likely low 80s. No storms are happening today, but maybe a better chance as the CF approaches from the west by Wednesday and especially into Thursday. Until then, dry, unless we get a pop up storm due from heat and humidity outta nowhere.

I measured 4” at my house and the airport east of town was 3.96” so my gauge is pretty accurate.

The weekend is looking pleasant and refreshing.  Then, next week the heat moves in.  The Euro has highs at least in the upper 80s with dews in the low to mid 70s.

With the H/L of 86/64 yesterday was tied with 2018 for the 6th warmest high for any May 25th and the low of 63 is now the 11th warmest minimum for May 25th. If is stays at or above 64 until midnight today will be the 4th warmest minimum at Grand Rapids. The record high for today is 90 set in 2010. At this time here at my house I have a temperature of 82 with a DP of 72.

The Omaha metro is getting into some more decent rains this morning, as a band of moderate to at times heavy rain is moving slowly across the area. Seems odd to get rain like this in late May without any thunder/lightning or severe weather.

My rain gauge is now nearing the 2 inch mark total for this event, going to back to Friday afternoon's showers through this morning. It appears today we will be making up quite a bit of the precipitation shortage that has been plaguing us since the start of the year.

At this time the official reading at Grand Rapids is 87 with a DP of 68. But here at my house I now have a unofficial reading of 90 with a DP of 71. Will have to see if GRR reaches 90 in the next few hours. The current reading of 87 at GRR is the 5th warmest for the date.

90 is the record high for this date.

There are warnings popping up south of Cedar Rapids, but these cells are tiny.  Most locations likely won't get much.

Looks like there are currently two active tornado warned cells in Central Iowa, looks like things are getting going a bit out there. Hopefully you can score a decent storm out your way Hawkeye and other eastern Iowa peeps.

The steady rain from this morning into early afternoon has now come to an end here, I just dumped out 2 1/2 inches of rain total from the storm system, from Friday until today. It's a humid but still kind of chilly 65 degrees here, while socked in with plenty of clouds (it would be hard to believe it's late May without looking at the calendar). Things are going to green up nicely around here once the clouds clear and things warm up a bit.

Whaaaaa....30s for lows this upcoming weekend for mby??? Frost advisories are possible Sat nite. Highs will be struggling to be in the low 60s. This has certainly been a crazy May. I mean, there was snow falling in my neck of the woods on May12th, so go figure!

not sure what models DVN is looking at with this statement for the weekend.

A northwest flow and surface high that follows will return highs to
the 70s over the weekend with overall dry weather. Rising heights
and advancing upper ridge will then bring a warming trend going into
next week.

Muskegon has now set a new record high for May 26 with a between readings high of 90 and here at Grand Rapids the 4PM reading was 90 and that will tie the record set in 2010. Also now both Muskegon and Grand Rapids have their first 90 day for the summer of 2020. Here at my house I now have a reading of 92.

Two cells just split around the west side of Cedar Rapids, then merged after passing.  I did not see a drop of rain.

The Toledo area finally got a decent soaking apparently. It was mostly sunny in Bellevue.

My friend who lives in Toledo, OH told me it got real nasty there as a strong cell rolled on through. How much water did ya pick up? Finally, some action eh!

Ground is dry here and there are no puddles. When it passed, it looked like my place got split to both the East and West on radar. I live West of Toledo.
