June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

A little more info on that EF-0 tornado in Damascus Or.

So far this spring has been quite exciting in my book. Looking forward to more battles between the cold and warm air masses.

There's some good elevation in that area. Right spot for the funnel cloud to form, didn't have to drop down a lot to reach the ground.

Just getting ready to mow this evening and the starter cord broke.

I guess I will just open the beer I was going to have after and wait for the rain to show up.

I will mow on Wednesday

Do you have a soldering iron?

For a nylon weave starter pull cord??

Is there a YouTube video that I should watch?

Or you could pop off the pull cord assembly and put a cordless drill on the flywheel nut and BAM! You have an electric starter!

I love how alive that cell was with motion!  We’re so used to looking at almost motionless clouds that we need time lapse to make them dance.  Most intriguing to my brain ! I did get a consolation prize of an amazing sunset down here last night!

Is the bottom image the Brookings effect?

That would probably produce temperatures in the 60s at Brookings (and Gold Beach, Crescent City, Eureka, etc.) You need significant pressure gradients between the Great Basin and the coast to get the downsloping foehn wind that triggers the Brookings Effect.

What’s also interesting is the temperature gradient between the coast and just a few miles inland in the Klamath Mountains. You can be in the coast with temps in the 60s and drive 15-30 minutes to temps in the 90s or even 100s provided you are in a canyon.

The Klamath Mtns are also home to some of the highest summer temperature diurnal variation on Earth.

The JMA isn't as good as the other top models but IMHO it's better than the CFS.

Anything is better than the CFS.

Please don't tell me you have experience doing this!!

Only once or twice...The mechanic at the golf course I worked at would have been proud...rest his soul. PSA if you eat leftover pizza almost every day I would suggest not dumping salt on it as well. Your heart will thank you.

Did the Cascade Loop today for giggles. Washington Pass still has plenty of snow for this time of year. Stevens Pass does as well.

Hopefully this portends well to another good winter for our mountain range. It'd be nice to see some reversal from the 20 year trend, if only temporary.

Good to hear they got 20 back open, sounded like quite the mudslide last week.

0.37” today, 3.75” on the month now, if we do not get anymore rain after today this month would end up slightly above average.
