June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Getting some heavy rain here as well with a few ice pellets mixed in.

You are currently doing better than the January Event!

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

That was such a terrible model pullback...yet we still got 1.5” of snow so not too bad. Niña is coming so I think we will do better next year.

Surprising since central Vancouver Island is generally one of the drier parts of the province. Not what you signed up for. ;)

I’m mostly just playing it up but the last few weeks or so has been persistently showery. I definitely don’t live on central Vancouver island. I’m only about 11 miles away from Victoria Intl YYJ. Comox, which is on central Vancouver Island is actually a little drier climate than here.

I know. Obviously you were looking for some sort of response there. :D

Surprised Comox is drier. I imagine the island’s west coast gets wetter as you go north though. Especially in the warm season.

Yea. There are a lot of micro climates up the east coast of the island. Comox is pretty dry getting shadowed by some 5000ft+ peaks but I think north and south of there are wetter. I know that Barkley sound and the Alberni inlet funnel the rain pretty dramatically just to the south of Comox. And yes I believe the west coast is wetter as you go north in the summer. I went camping up around Port Hardy once in August and it pounded down rain. Prob several inches in a few day. Apparently the weather was warm and sunny down here. I have friends hiking up on the north island right now. Think they were maybe gonna try Cape Scott. That’s probably something up your alley.

That's a crazy stretch of dryness. Growing up, I have memories of frequent rainy Junes and the fires were rarely as bad as we've had in the last several years.

I tell my kids tales of rain in July and August when I was younger.

Y’all are gonna get nailed again. PDX too. If 16-17 becomes a solid analog then I think we will all be happy.

My phone thought Comoc was a more realistic sounding city name. Haven’t heard of Cape Scott, will have to look it up. Closer to your stretch of coastline, I have always wanted to hike Pacific Rim National Park.

I haven’t been on the Island since we did a family vacation to Parksville in spring 1999. Saw Horn Lake Caverns and Cathedral grove then, among other things. Also miniature golfed. I’m due.

Very nice! Should be some good analogs as we get closer to the regular season.

Did this ever verify? I don’t really care for extremely hot weather but it would be nice to see if we could ever break the all time record high for the US which is 134 set in Death Valley in 1913. Can’t believe that record has stood for close to 100 years.
