Kayla
Euro looks a lot less progressive with the ULL early next week. But the position of it could still give us some warm days, could be a good thunderstorm set up too depending on details. Pretty big shift. Off on its own right now so it will be interesting to see if it's another mishandling of the cutoff low or it picked up on something that the other models have not. Phil
Speaking of which, it might finally be time to declare that Baffin Vortex/AK-West Coast ridge pattern dead. It redeveloped almost annually every year from 2013 until the winter of 2018/19, which featured that major SSW in Jan/Feb. There’s a growing volume of evidence that these major midwinter SSW events can lead to (or somehow represent) the culmination/inception of multi-year shifts in quasi-equilibrative modes within the ocean/atmosphere system. This summer has been the reverse of that Baffin Vortex/+TNH pattern, and last summer never fully got there either. Now there’s a big ridge over NE-Canada with troughing over the West Coast/AK. Much more analogous to 2008-12. 5 Quote Live Weather Cam: https://www.youtube.com/live/KxlIo8-KVpc?si=xKLCFYWbZieAfyh6 PWS Wunderground https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/KMDBETHE62 PWS CWOP/NOAA: https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=F3819&hours=

Omegaraptor
So heat and snow, ok. Anything else back to donut hole. Mainly NW flow gets donut holed here. HIO averages drier in spring and summer than PDX, but actually slightly wetter in winter when most of the rain comes from SW flow. NW flow winter months usually end up drier, though (see Jan 2013). As far as t-storms and snow... bad luck comes in streaks and we’re in one.

Some years only a couple thunders occur more than 1 year in a row, other times groupings like 2008-2009 I record 7-8 t'storms in Hillsboro 2 years back to back. 2003-2004 was another nice group of years for thunderstorms there. 3 Quote Ashland, KY Weather '23-'24 Winter Snowfall - 5.50" First freeze: 11/1 (32) Minimum: 2 on 1/17 Measurable snows: 4 Max 1 day snow: 3" (1/19) Thunders: 11 1/27, 1/28, 2/10, 2/22, 2/27, 2/28, 3/5, 3/6, 3/14, 3/15 3/26, ------------------------------------------------------- [Klamath Falls, OR 2010 to 2021] https://imgur.com/SuGTijl
