June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

ECMWF looks very pleasant. We score a wonderful Saturday and a fairly nice Sunday as well. Cool Monday then back to summer warmth on Tuesday.

Really beautiful weather for the next week.

Overall it looks pretty decent. Just unfortunate timing again for WA.

EPS also shows that the chilly ULL next weekend is the last in this cycle. We will see.

Today will feature 2 seconds less daylight than yesterday.

Bye summer.

Pandemic time moves fast. Summer is going to go quickly.

A lot resting on whether the 4th of July weekend will be 75% sunny or 65%.

Actually its more like the difference between raining and low 60s or sunny and in the 70s for the people talking about it up here. So we are more interested in tracking it.

We realize its always nice down there... but that does not help us much. We are just hoping for some favorable timing.

Last time Seattle had a high in the "low 60s" on the 4th was in 1998.

Also among our last arctic outbreaks that year.

But hey, you never know!

Sunday will likely be in the low 60s with rain in Seattle. Just a few days before the 4th. All comes down to timing. And of course the people tracking it up here don't live in a more favorable spot for sun in troughy patterns like SEA.

You should stay at one of the nice motels nearby that day.

We stay in 2-bedroom suites with full kitchens when we travel. ;)

We realize you don't have to track the weather for the 4th because its always nice down there. Got it. Sort of like me not having to track snow in the winter because it always snows here. But you get very angry when I say that!

PDX saw 66/57 with 0.21"  on rain on that same 4th in 1998.

Don't have much recollection of it and I think my holidays plans proceeded quite normally. Remember the sticky heat later that month though.

I am very hard pressed to remember any completely rainy days down here between about June 25-August 25. Maybe in 1993, a couple in 1997, and 1-2 days in 2011.

No idea what your point is... but you seem intent on mocking people for tracking weather that matters to them on a weather forum. Yet that is what people do all winter on here.

Let it go.

We had a nice arctic event about 6 month’s prior.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

EPS has been consistent for the 4th of July weekend... even as timing moves up.

That pattern doesn’t compute in my brain. I’m trying to make it work but I can’t.

I have to believe the end result is a migrating GOA ridge, ULL near the west coast, and a broad ridge and/or 4CH type feature somewhere over the continental US.

That is why I am very skeptical as well. Does not seem right.

I suppose something like that could hold for a few days, which could verify on the 4th with good timing.

But I can’t envision that pattern holding for any prolonged period of time.

Definitely would be a pattern ripe for crashing and retrogression.

That’s one possibility.

Another possibility is that it morphs I go the -EPO/+TNH like pattern with a plains trough, like some recent years. But that’s not the progression you’d expect w/ dateline/WPAC subsidence in a developing Niña (to oversimplify it somewhat).

July 18, 1987 was assuredly pretty wild at Winter's Hill.

Not sure if you were living in the region yet.

I was a young lad in sunny San Diego.

Interestingly we have only had one white Christmas in 9 years here. 2015. It snowed on Christmas Eve 2014 and the day after Christmas in 2012 and 2016.
