June 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Shouldn’t take much to outperform last winter, though. 2019-20 was pretty much on the same tier as 2002-03 or 2014-15. At least we got our dud out of the way, however.

I know you like to complain about everything, but the active January, decent mountain snowpack and late season cold and snow in March put it a little above those true duds, IMO.

I actually had a good 3-4 inches of snow in early-March— redeemed that one for me quite a bit.

Thank you for not spamming us with 500 posts about the college admissions process.

I know you’re calling me out, but put me on ignore if you’re so retroactively bothered haha, y’all like complaining after things are done.

Apparently Andrew and I have reached the age where it is expected that we start to arbitrarily hate younger people.

To be fair to him, I suppose it was annoying to some people. I’ll readily admit that I used this place as a sort of announcement forum when I felt bad about venting to my friends. Then again, not a peep from him *while* I was actively sharing posts...

The college posts were fine. Beats jet skiing pics.

You really didn’t post about your college admissions process that much. “500 posts” was a pretty big exaggeration on his part. Congratulations on getting in!

I was about to say...y’all had a pretty decent event in mid March. Ended up with just about as much or more snowfall than some of us in western WA south of Seattle.

Yeah. And I guess looking more regionally, the big snows and arctic air from Everett north in mid-January also set it apart for those big time duds

We still wound up with 2 inches of snow this last winter...definitely not the best but far from the worst. The event in mid March down in Portland was better than anything we saw here in western WA south of Everett this winter.

Meteorological winter is December 1 to February 28/29.

Last two weeks of January (hell pretty much all of January except like 5 chilly days mid-month) were just warm front after warm front with annoyingly high snow levels almost the entire time. Gov't Camp snow level got shredded from 80" mid-month to 30" end-month. Most here don't find stagnant warm front drizzle day after day to be very interesting.

December 2002 and January 2003 were wet months... doesn’t stop the winter of 2002-03 from being considered a massive pile of sh*t.

Here locally there was virtually nothing noteworthy. January was indeed quite lacking in character, although we did surpass 10" of precip for the month, it transpired in a pretty insipid fashion.

I somehow wound up with 3"+ of snow (and measurable snowfalls in December, January, February and March) but it was all pretty low end on the impact scale. Hard to argue that it was a 1/7 year kind of dud.

That sucks. We are due for a snowy December so hopefully you get to experience one soon.

Our original arrival date was on December 6 but my wife wanted to spend Christmas and New Years with her family so we didn’t get up here until January. I missed out hehheh

But *unlike* 2002-2003, many Portlanders actually received quite a bit of March snow— definitely puts it a notch above the duds. Those dud years never gave us any really impressive early season cold snaps or monstrous Cascade snowstorms (mid-January was no joke up there). I know you’re very particular about meteorological winter and all that, but (as someone who didn’t like the past winter) believe that it wasn’t among the greatest duds in our region.

Welcome to Juneuary.

We also had one of those back at the beginning of the year. A dual Juneuary. Not a fan of those as it means the Jan was shitt.

I really enjoyed this March. Chilly with some really nice continental days and a decent amount of snow. Overall the winter sucked. Could have been much worse for snow however. We managed a good deal of slop in January, and then March delivered as usual.
