July 2020 Observations and Discussion

The dew in recent days has been in the 65-70º range.  Today it is 73º.

I'm afraid the little spin moving across Iowa will be too progressive and no showers will pop until it's east of me.

NEW RECORD at Muskegon!!! With the current reading of 90 Muskegon now has set a new record for the number of consecutive days of 90 or better with the 9th day in a row of 90 or better.. This breaks the old record of 8 days set in August of 1947. Grand Rapids now has had 6 days in a row of 90 or better.

Nice cluster of storms to my north. It seems like they are moving ever so slightly south. I just hope I get a taste of them.

Attm, its 90F w a dewpt of 69, so, yep, it is muggy outside. At times skies look ominous, and then all of a sudden, skies start to brighten up. I think Ma Nature is playing w us and getting our hopes up.

Supposed to have an MCS here tonight. If I somehow manage to get no rain from that, I'm quitting weather.

Dont be sensitive! That is what makes weather phenomenal and fun. Kinda like in Winter, when we are tracking a major Winterstorm and you have "TrackA, which is a bonify shut-down blizzard", or "Track B, heavy snow (w heavy accumulations b4 the changeover) to ice to rain", or even "TrackC all rain w little mixing at the beginning ending as snow w no accumulations." So, your area all of a sudden goes from TrackA which was forecasted by every model for days and days and then (while you are all excited and nervous at the same time for any last changes in the track), last second, BANNNGGGGGGGGGG, you are forecasted to get TrackC w hardly any snow at all. Now that is a stab in the back....PERIOD!!!!, but again, that is what makes weather so fascinated. ;)

I was also being completely serious without a hint of sarcasm, like always.

Well, then, lets see how serious you are if you get no rainfall.

I like it better than Toledo!

Not a weather question but looking at some photos of Fargo I seen one with the sign "Family Fair" I was wondering if that was a grocery store. My youngest son used to work at SpartanNash at their corporate offices (yes they have offices in Grand Rapids, MI) Anyway I was kind of surprised to see a Family Fair sign in Fargo. While we have Family Fair here in Grand Rapids they are much smaller (and more expensive) then Meijer.

Family Fare is indeed a thing here! Though I'm more of a Hornbachers person.

A line of storms just blew up right after passing by me.

Yeah just got hit hard out of no where. Had a canopy setup out back that is destroyed. Power went out just south of here. Picked up a quick .65 of much needed rain though.

Even the cool outflow did not push southwest at all, so the west side of CR is still 90º.

Most amount of times being in the 90s for the month of July is 17x, set back in 1955. Clearly, we will have no problem breaking that record this year (month of July) as 90s make a return next week. after a brief relief from the 90s this weekend.

Btw: The streak of 11 days in a row being in the 90s was a record back in 1953, which I don't think we will break, but it will certainly be a close call this week b4 the heatwave ends on Friday thanks to a welcoming CF.

1.5" of rain reported just west of me from the cell earlier that blew up and dropped 1" of hail south of ORD...I was driving south and watching the towering storm clouds bubble up.  I miss these views!

Looks like a line of storms is trying to keep itself together as it approaches NE IL...outflow knocking on my doorstep...dang, wish I laid down some fertilizer/weed killer on my lawns today.  These are the perfect rains.

Cedar Rapids, officially, still has not hit 90º since early June.

It was certainly 90+ here in the city.  It felt quite hot.

Currently at 77F w a dewpt of 69 under crystal clear skies. Some severe weather uprooted trees earlier this evening near my area. Nothing IMBY, closecall though.

A good cell has slowly tracked southeast toward me over the last hour, but it totally slammed on the brakes just before arriving.

TV met says this is the first heavy rain to actually hit the F-M area in over a month.

Glad to hear you scored some storm action!  Looks like the Fargo area is under a Flood Advisory.  The radar loop certainly painted an active period over your place...

Another warm and muggy (75F/70F) morning here, as well as, very damp from the heavy rains that fell last night.  While the rains were isolated locally speaking, more scattered storms are in the forecast today.  Hopefully those who missed out can cash in today.  I'm sure by Friday many of us will have had some rain based on the trends in the models.

Check out this time lapse video of the towering thunderhead over O'Hare yesterday...

Do you believe the Euro in the extended???  Well, if you do, then a string of 100's is on the table next Wed-Fri for many of us.  Meanwhile, the GFS/Canadian are less bullish.  Given how poorly the Euro handled the extent of the heat last week for this week, my best guess is that the extreme heat will be pushed farther south.  I would think that areas where it rains over the remainder of this week will keep soils wetter and thus cooler than what the Euro is showing.

What a surprise when I woke up the driveway was wet. Looks like my area had a rain shower just before sun rise and I recorded 0.20″ of rain fall. This is the first rain here since June 27 at my house. The overnight low was 72 and the current temperature is 73 with a DP of 70

Forecast today calls for 97F with a HI around 105. Excessive Heat Warning issued for the metro. That MCS that rolled through Fargo (congrats FAR_!) probably won’t make it here despite its good trajectory. I’ve had 3 straight days of at least a 20 min storm. The grass hasn’t even really started to brown at all despite this ridiculous heat.

My 10 day looks like summer 2012.

Waterloo has had 90+ 6 days in a row now. Today will be 7.

I'm guessing today will be the first 90º in Cedar Rapids (officially) this month.

Models are drying out again for my area.  Last night's Euro barely had a drop of rain here through day 10.
