June (July) 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Anybody see the comet after sunset yet? Or does that start tomorrow?

Tonight is the first night it’s visible after sunset, but apparently very low on the horizon. It will be getting higher and higher with each passing evening. We are in an area without a great view of the NNW horizon tonight, unfortunately, I haven’t seen it yet.

Think I might take tomorrow off and start the winterizing my property. Down to 49!

Clouds filled back in over all of King County before sunset... typical c-zone signature with no precip this time.     So that means no comet watching but its still around 60 here.   SEA is still 64 with NE18G24.    Guessing some drier air is mixing in now.   Should be summer perfection the next 3 days.

July 1993 was about as extreme as July 2015 in my area.    It went above 70 degrees on just 5 days in July 1993 at the Snoqualmie Falls station in the valley and it rained on 21 days.    People who can't handle heat did not do well in July 2015 and people who want our normal summer-like weather would not do well in a month like July 1993.    Thankfully this month is more of a typical July.

Low of 54 this morning. Going over to eastern Washington where it should be in the 80s the whole time. It’s gonna feel like a heatwave compared to the weather we’ve been getting recently here on the west side.

My truck thought it was winter as well...Remote started it this morning and it read the outside temp and automatically blasted the heat, window defoggers, heated seats, and heated steering wheel...So I’m not the only one that thought it was chilly this morning!

Might be chilly the next couple mornings over in banks lake. Going to feel chilly compared to Tacoma...hasn’t been a low below 52 degrees since mid June. Could see some lows in the 40s the next couple mornings there...was in the mid 40s this morning. Some of the Obs. In the cascades were in the low to mid 40s with a few select mid to upper 30s at some higher locations.

Because you had a mild low of 46 degrees?? Your "truck" is soft.

How did you do during actually cool Julys like 1993?

Spent the entire summer inside by the warm Fire reminiscing about the winter we just came out of. 92/93 was a good winter, no huge snows but lots of cold and some snow. I was a brand new 16yr old driver and almost wrecked my new to me 1975 El Camino due to slick roads.

At least the days are getting shorter now. More rapidly with time as well. Come on, autumn. Do your thang.

Yeah I need better material.

I just hate this time of year, man. Even with a decent trough overhead it’s still surging to 90°F. Fuuk it.

Id be grumpy too if it was sweltering hot all the time where I lived too. So lucky that we don’t have to deal with that here. The most 90+ days I’ve recorded in a summer at my house was 5 back in 2015. Even when it does get hot here (85+) it’s not humid heat. Our hottest summers (2015, 2017 and 2018) would be considered cold compared to an average summer there.

Had a low of 42F this morning.  I checked out July 1993 but the lowest reading here for that month was 43F.  In 2008 I had a low of 39,5F on July 11th so todays low was not really close to the coldest here for mid-July.

This summer has been great...only 3 (80+) days with the warmest day being 81 on 5/10. Eventually we will get some days warmer than that. Still no 80s this July but we didn’t have any 80s the first 3 weeks of July last year either. July last year was quite a bit wetter too.

July of 1993 was very wet... the day temps were cold but I doubt there were many cool, clear nights in our area.

I don’t trust how the models are handling that GOA ridge in the long range. A myriad of solutions try and prograde it over BC/PNW after D10-12, but I’m not sure that’ll be end result in reality.

Anomalous trades to propagate over the entire tropical Pacific this week. Should reverse the warming in the western niño regions.

In the summer time we are one of the coldest locations in the Seattle area. It’s a trade off though because we’re warmer in the winter time. Generally one of the warmer locations but still generally a couple degrees cooler than seattle. We get quite a few less freezes at night.
