June (July) 2020 Weather Discussion for the PNW

Recommended Posts

Cicadas buzzing like crazy.

Yeah it’s really loud now. Can hear them from every room in the house, especially the morning and evening hours.

Katydids and tree crickets have started up as well during the overnight hours. It’s a symphony orchestra.

91/55 so another very warm day. Comet should be a little higher up.

Not that I saw. Redmond is nearby though. I wonder how close I was to High Desert Mat. One thing that area has is some of the best Cascade views in Oregon. At one point, I think I could see 10 peaks at the same time. Much more than Bend.

I live in the NE part of Redmond. Bought a house last March on 3rd street which is on the east side of the highway. So you were probably about 24 minutes away. I work in Bend everyday and don’t see why there’s so many people living there these days. The traffic congestion has gotten unbearable and the cost to live there is painful. I’m sure Redmond will be there soon from the looks of things here. Another half dozen new 50,000 2ft buildings are starting here again. Doctors offices and medical manufacturing going in. It’s just a matter of time.

Commercial real estate crash is coming. The infrastructure is pretty woeful in Central Oregon. Roads just are not built to handle that population growth. Highway 97 is a death trap.

Kind of strange that it was cooler down there than it was up here. I always thought the lower sound almost always ends up warmer than here on sunny days.

I also live in one of the coolest locations in the summer right near the water.

Comet is visible tonight in Tacoma as well inbetween some clouds. Not quite as bright as over in eastern Washington when I saw it the last few nights but visible with the naked eye still.

Heavy drizzle here this morning. Favorable timing finally... raining on Friday morning and then turning nice as the weekend starts rather than the opposite.

I could get close to 100 on 07/21. Probably 98-99.

So far my hottest temperature was 96 on 06/23. It'd be rare to have the hottest annual temperature in June in this area as it has the least potential for heat.

FWIW I already had hotter weather than all of 2019, last month. And I believe PDX did the same thing as well.

My max was 94 in August that year and a nice little wave in September right before the t'storm outbreak.

PDX reached 98 in both June and August last year. This year the max is 93 so far with 94 at HIO.

I noticed the NorCal forecasts were quite hot and Klamath Falls is following suit.

Hopefully as we edge towards 2nd half of summer we get some nice light shows or even some AM convection to wake up to.

Running an obvious deficit on thunder days here. July and August are the two biggest producers with May coming in 3rd place.

Was partly cloudy earlier this morning at home, had to run down to Smokey Point and it was raining, ran back up to work and it was mostly sunny by then.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Notable WPAC cooling over the last week, with warming over the MC/IPWP and Atlantic. Inverse of what you’d expect for a hot August in the PNW.

I wonder if September might be the warmest month of the year in the PNW region. Given the seasonal changes in ET/tropical exchanges beginning around that time, it’s certainly within the realm of possibility should the IO/far WH low pass signal continue, IMO.

My gut feeling is that September is going to torch. Really haven't had a hot one since 2014, we're Dew(ey).

Interesting. Makes sense I guess, since it’s the exact opposite here (9 out of the last 10 Septembers have blowtorched).

Maybe this year will reverse things.

Trades broadening over the Pacific. Should see an upwelling wave develop within the next several weeks.

Summer pretty much continued unabated there through October last year, right? A bunch of places in the eastern US set all time record highs for October, while record cold airmass after record cold airmass was dropping into the intermountain West.

Yup. June was tolerable, as usual, but July - mid-October was a nightmare.

The 2nd half of October did flip stormy w/ a quick 5-7” of rain to relieve the drought, but the damage was done at that point.

Stealth c-zone... its has been dark and drizzly all day from Seattle eastward but its not showing up on the radar.     And its still going even in Seattle and Bellevue.

Gross day for July... but nature is about to reward us with the best weekend of the summer by far.    :)

12z Euro looks a little quicker to suppress heights next week vs. the 12z run from yesterday.

Highs still look to top out around 90 in the Puget Sound area on Tuesday, and then drop back down to the low 80s by Wednesday and mid 70s on Thursday.

Overall, looking like a short heat wave.

Only has gotten to 81 at my house this year should easily end up the hottest day yet this summer. I’m fine with some decent heat as long as it doesn’t stick around too long.
