00z Euro was ridiculously hot. Heat builds right over me and just cooks the NW late weekend into next week. Yuck.

What location and depth is needed to trigger one here?

Here's some info from the USGS on magnitude needed for a tsunami.

https://www.usgs.gov/faqs/what-it-about-earthquake-causes-a-tsunami?qt-news_science_products=0#qt-news_science_products

I think there can be other factors, such as the depth of the quake, the displacement of the Earth's crust as a result of the quake, underwater landslides, etc.

Here's a story on one that was triggered by a landslide (which was triggered by an earthquake.)

https://www.wired.com/2009/07/dayintech-0709/

Volcanoes can also trigger tsunamis.

I seem to remember that the east coast actually has a risk of tsunami thanks to a volcano in the Canary Islands, its happened at least 4-5 times in the past.

00Z EPS showed heat from Sunday - Wednesday out here but then was much cooler than the operational run after that with the offshore trough much closer to the coast.    The ECMWF is likely having cut-off bias issues as usual.

Sure hope so. We are entering the hottest two week period of the year right now so climatology speaking it wouldn't be that out of line.

Had a massive MP around 4:30 this morning with the wind blowing the inflatable unicorn all around the little kids pool.

Currently light drizzle and 56.

Oh well... it will probably be snowing there in 3 to 4 weeks.   Enjoy the variety.    ;)

Quite sunny up here in the 'ham.  Only got down to 62 last night, and I could really use some of that "dark and drizzly" right about now (just for a day or so).  Usually I am in the office during the day and enjoy the A/C there, but since I am furloughed this summer, not so much....

Should be much cooler up there for the next 3 days either way.

You’ve got a better shot at precipitation up there than us folks south of Seattle the next couple days. You’ll get your wish!

What were the swells like???

Glad it happened early in the morning while the pool was empty!

Massive! One of my dogs spotted the unicorn moving/bobbing all about from the living room and started alarm barking at it to let me know that a crazed unicorn was about to break into the house!

Euro looking very hot next Monday. Could approach 100 down here.

Good news is the pattern progression on the EPS looks nothing like the operational.

Like, not even remotely close. About 40/52 members are in the troughy camp d10-15 as well. Which, given the state of the WPAC/tropics, would be a favored outcome, in my opinion.

GFS has looked a lot more consistent.

Makes sense, unfortunately (for me).

I’m gonna be stuck under default ridging for at least another year, I think. Maybe longer.

If it makes you feel any better look up the average temps for the last 3 Januarys at PDX. More like the Central Valley than the Willamette Valley.

Sadly it appears that I won’t get my 100 degree day that I was hoping for this summer.

I’m not to sure your new house is capable of 100. You are almost always running cooler than here and Shawnigan lake has never hit 100. I guess maybe if some downslope hit you just right.

Yeah it would take a real feat here I think. Hit 102 at my old location back in 2009 but I bet it struggled to hit 100 up here during that event.

The clouds rolled in soon after my post, but have burned off during the last 15 minutes or so, temp jumped 5 degrees in the process
