What about 1872/73? We’re tied with that year right now.

 

Frontloaded. We had a nice November/December.

Today still managed to pull off a -2 at PDX thanks to the cool low. Could be our last negative departure day in a little while, assuming models don’t beef up the shortwave later this week all that much.

Probably a decent chance they avoid 90+ tomorrow.

To Phil's point however, if tomorrow does do it then there's no telling how much they could shatter the record by. Sky's the limit. Hopefully they get some 100+ days in there to at least mix it up a bit.

Lots of interesting western/PNW winter analogs in years with long heat streaks at DCA. For whatever it’s worth.

1983/84, 1988/89, 1995/96, 2011/12, 2016/17, 1872/73(?)

Only duds were WPAC+solar max years (1999, 1980). Which this year isn’t.

I just went out and was able to see it pretty clearly in the sky to the NW. It's smaller and lower in the sky than you might think based on the photos.

Probably only about 10 degrees above the NW horizon, I just went out and checked again and can't see it anymore. It looks like it will get higher in the horizon up to July 23rd so should be plenty more viewing opportunities.
