TT-SEA
HIO topped out at 90. Seems like that dry Western air finally showed up today as RH dropped to about 20%. As a result it didn’t feel too hot and definitely cooler than yesterday. Dewpoints have been around 60 up here. VancouverIslandSouth
Marine influence increasing... only 71 at SEA while its 80 here. Ended up hitting 82F here today, still 76F and we're closer to the source of the marine air. It's interesting how it sometimes cools down faster there than here. Dewpoints continue to be higher than normal, maxing out at 64F this afternoon.

I think it mostly felt cooler because today was cooler.
VancouverIslandSouth
Fascinating! Is this area always warmer? Yep, possibly the warmest large area of coastal waters on the West Coast north of the Baja in the summer. At other times of the year when there's more mixing it tends to be closer in temperature to areas around it. It can cause some interesting weather like nocturnal convection later in the summer as cool offshore winds on both sides converge over the Strait.

GeorgeWx
Better swimming conditions in the Strait of Georgia at around 67F, and certainly a bit warmer than that in the bays and beaches: how does the water get so warm there, slack current? VancouverIslandSouth
how does the water get so warm there, slack current? I think there are a couple factors; it regularly gets moderate north winds in the summer and there are pretty strong tides and currents in places. But it doesn't experience any upwelling, it gets warm water inflow from the Fraser River and it's in a valley surrounded by mountains with few clouds in the summer.

Although I suppose it flows a good distance through the BC interiors which is pretty warm this time of year. I thought it’s ultimate source was glacial though. Yep, it starts up in the glaciers of the Rockies, but it moderates quite a bit through the warm interior valleys. Jesse
Well local mets here were making posts about it as if it was fairly serious. A 7.8 MMS EQ is pretty solid. From what I can tell it is far away from our coastline, out in the Aleutians. And the Richter scale is a logarithmic scale, so a 7.8 is about a thousand times weaker than the one that hit Alaska in 1964, for instance.
