Completely OT, but for you guys talking about getting Xbox Game Pass for the Flight Simulator I would highly recommend to buy the 24 months of Xbox live gold from Costco ($95) and load that onto your Microsoft account. Then when you sign up for Game Pass (for $1), it will offer to convert that live gold into game pass for free using a 1:1 conversion. For an even better deal, you can add the 24 months + 12 months codes from Costco for the max 36 months allowed.

2 years through this method: $96 / 3 years: $151

2 years through the regular Game Pass monthly subscription: $360 / 3 years: $540

Savings: $264 / $389

Pretty good chance I'm not getting any more thunderstorms until next Spring. There's that very slim possibility of a rumble or two in October (got VERY close in 2011!) but won't count on it. Rarely we can get cold core convection but its an average of like 1 in every 30 thunders I am calculating.

Smoke got a little thicker. PurpleAir reading around 130 AQI. Not terrible if you compare to September 12th, this site was spitting out >500 peaking around 523. I think I have screenshots of this.

Thanks for the recommendation!

I'll probably give it a shot eventually.

You also have to re-map the mouse keys even though it doesn't actually say you need to if you're using a controller. I believe there are some vids on how to configure it correctly. I highly recommend getting a joystick or a PS4/XBox controller to then have it feel like a "GTA" experience.

For playing video games.

Yeah, I should be doing yard work but instead I am in a TBM930 cruising at FL280 at 316kn GS headed for KATL.  Kinda hazy assuming the weather feed is working right...Looks like the latest patch jacked up the autopilot though....

Yeah....save yourself....its too late for me.  Just got enough money to "buy" a Cessna 172 on the FS economy program.  Problem is that its in Rhode Island.  Starting the process of ferrying it to the PNW....

They need to come out with Microsoft Weather Simulator.

"Experience blizzards, hurricanes, tornadoes and derechos up close and from the safety and comfort of your own home - without the guilt of property destruction and lost lives! Or if the low clouds and drizzle are getting you down, just turn on the Xbox and turn up the sunshine!"

Can you imagine?

The VFR map is completely bush league unfortunately & the “live” flight data is like 30+ mins delayed. I almost never see planes flying in and out of major airports. That said, the visuals are stunning.

LOL, yeah I suppose its kinda sad but given how good the graphics are, it will give me a way to "see" the country in a way I will probably never be able to in real life...and it will be kind of fun to do...at least with my dual monitor set up I can "fly" on one screen while doing other stuff on the other.  I need to get some PMP training credits knocked out over the next few months.  It will be interesting to see if I can make it back before the weather gets too cold (the sim does simulate icing).

76 here in Bellingham after a low of 52 under orange filtered sun.  It got really foggy at some point during the night, pavement was wet as if it had rained this morning.

Oh no, I totally get it.  My brother has been trying to get me on board for a while and I’ve been holding off until the kids are both out of the house.  If course that might be another 10 years...🤦‍♂️

if you have 2 monitors there is littlenav maps, a free flight planning/flight tracking software program.  Also, if you have an Ipad there is an app (spacedesk) that will turn that into a second monitor.

And yeah, the traffic is a bit off, but its still cool to see real flights out and about.  I think part of the problem is that air travel as a whole is still way down, but if you hit the big airports you'll see a fair amount of traffic.

I have sadly gotten hooked on it, the graphics are amazing, and they are getting the weather dialed in....the weather feed took a crap at one point yesterday afternoon, but seems to be back work this morning.  The cloud textures, the effects for rain showers shading against the scenery, turbulence flying though clouds etc.   Found a mod called FS Economy that works with most of the flight sims, the premise being you rent planes and fly missions for money.  Eventually you can get enough money to buy your own plane, buy FBO's etc.

The attached screenshot was in the Seatac area.  Also did a night flight into Atlanta with partly cloudy skies, and it was interesting to see the light pollution as a thin strip on the horizon grow to the point that when I got over the city, the interior of the aircraft was illuminated and the underside of the clouds had that weird orange glow.

It gets better...this was sunset over Long Island Sound/east end of Long Island.

I've seen some amazing sunsets, but I've never seen the visual effects do what I saw tonight.  The sun is off to the right, the bright spot off to the left of the image is a glare/reflection of the sun off the curved part of the windscreen.  You can also see the shadow of the glareshield and compass on the lower left side of the image.  The white marks on the left side are blemishes on the windscreen.  All of this moved/changed as the aircraft pitched and rolled (except the blemished of course).  Also, the west side of the buildings are lit up from the low sun.

After this screen shot I turned directly into the sun to line up, and had a horrible glare off the cowling that looked very realistic in terms of my ability to see the out the windscreen and to see the instrument panel.  Unfortunately I could not get a screenshot because I was hand flying and the elevator trim was seriously out of whack (I need to remap the trim commands to make it easier to trim the plane out).

This is not off a high end computer....I am playing on a mid-range, $1,000-ish Dell gaming laptop.

And snow I believe, or at least I think they are working on it. The weather is pretty close to accurate on a large-scale. Obviously it's never going to be super hi-res given our microclimates here.

Didn't realize real-time weather is actually simulated into the game. That's pretty cool.

Awesome info!

Does anybody have a link to track the smoke or got any info on it? Wondering how long the smoke will stay around.

Winds are supposed to shift out of the North Sunday according to cliff mass. Should help get the smoke outta here.

Hope it’s a none factor on your hot air balloon venture. Smoke could add spice if your departing at sunrise though 🌅

Looks cool but not cold?

This is the composite average of 12 members, so I'd expect that it's just the product of a wide variation in temps. The 500mb height averages show a stronger and more appropriate signal. More encouraging to me is the building arctic/subarctic cold pool being advertised by all of our seasonal models. Get some favorable blocking and.... 😶

Speaking of seasonal models, here is the new CANSIPS Model for January.

If you share any more long range forecast products with the public and not a cleared, educated, and professional audience, I will report you to Courtney and get you barred from Sandpoint. After the snow map fiasco of 2019, I can't have anymore long rang prognostications.

Seams like the seasonals are shifting back to what they were forecasting last month. DJF looks good again.

Winter is saved!

Looks like SEA will end up around +4.2 for September... and just about 1 inch above normal on rainfall.

WFO SEA  +4.2

BLI +4.7

OLM +3.7

UIL +5.0

The SEA UHI effect did not really exist this month with WFO SEA being the same and even warmer at BLI and UIL.
