For those tracking at home... the 12Z ECMWF shows a perfect day in Seattle for the MLB All Star Game next Tuesday.    Sunny and low to mid 80s.    Summer perfection!   Hope it holds.

12Z ECMWF shows convection and rain up in BC on numerous days through next week.   This should help keep things in check up there.

The last time Seattle hosted the All-Star game there were 8 Mariners on the squad. This year their only selection is a starting pitcher with a losing record...Womp womp...

We can see the Mariners any day of the week, better to get a look at the stars from other teams. 

Ball should carry well for the HR derby. I'll be in the LF bleachers which usually don't see many balls, but I bet they will be busier on Monday.

Well it also means the team isn't doing very well this year. I only follow players, not teams, could care less who wins the World Series. Really not any players worth following on the Mariners. Kirby and Rodriguez are okay, but not stars.

Players are meaningless without the teams.   That is what makes it fun.  You are a depressing wet blanket.

I just enjoy watching Ohtani play, everyone else is a chump by comparison.

This satellite shot from a few minutes ago, one can see the high smoke layer now south of Portland, Oregon.

The smoke models are showing more smoke to come at lower levels by the Fourth of July.  Just adding to some of the earliest smoke we've ever had to the region on top of the smoke we had earlier this year.  Over the next few days, the model is showing some of the smoke will start to gather in the Pacific, west of Oregon.  That is a classic set up where the smoke builds in the Pacific, then blows back in our face.

Ohtani in the WBC was amazing, nothing MLB does will top that. 

Then on the other end of the spectrum there's a guy like Luis Arraez who is hitting .390 which seems unfathomable, especially since he doesn't have much speed. 

Julio Rodriguez is 22, I'll be shocked if he's not one of the best 5 hitters in baseball by the time he turns 25. He just needs to learn some plate discipline.

Will probably end up being a quick ULL and then retrogression.   Remember all that heavy rain that was going to fall in eastern WA and OR per your July 11-17 map posted last week.   It's in BC now.   Which isn't a bad thing... but its trending north.

Back from spending my long weekend at Similkameen Falls in the Canadian Cascades (just east of Manning Park). High enough elevation to be nice and cool; in fact I wouldn’t have minded if it was a bit warmer. Was in the upper 30’s F this morning!

There is definitely smoke aloft here.

Hard to explain the difference between these images.    Look at Vancouver Island.   I think the WA image is more accurate.   The BC image makes it look like the smoke is so thick it's obscuring the sun completely.   I assume it's related to angle but the satellite is in the same position and looking at the same place in both images.   Very confusing.

And looking at a web cam from Bellingham pointed toward the WSW... its definitely not anywhere close to what the BC image implies.
