Will probably end up being a quick ULL and then retrogression.   Remember all that heavy rain that was going to fall in eastern WA and OR per your July 11-17 map posted last week.   It's in BC now.   Which isn't a bad thing... but its trending north.

ecmwf-ensemble-avg-namer-qpf_anom_7day-9681600.png

I think it could be more than a quick ULL with proper timing/speed of the next CCKW.

Not a given, obviously. But we can hope. 🤞

Hard to explain the difference between these images.    Look at Vancouver Island.   I think the WA image is more accurate.   The BC image makes it look like the smoke is so thick it's obscuring the sun completely.   I assume it's related to angle but the satellite is in the same position and looking at the same place in both images.   Very confusing.

It’s the low sun angle. Midday it won’t appear that thick.

Those images were at the exact same time.   Look at the time stamp.   I was just picking different regions to view.   Very strange.    Saw the same thing yesterday so its not something random.

Different satellites/sensors, probably. Smoke appears thicker on visible satellite towards sunrise/sunset.

Smoke moving in overhead. Sun looking like a red dot on the horizon. Can’t see it through the trees in this pic.

Both images were from 4 p.m. this afternoon.   I know smoke looks thicker on the satellite around sunset... but the sun was high in the sky at that time.

Different sensors/bands, probably. Some frequencies more sensitive than others.

Looks pretty good down there.  It’s looked like a solid high overcast since yesterday afternoon here.  Little if any at the surface though, so it’s tolerable.

Looks pretty decent in Bellingham.    The wind will be coming from that direction this afternoon down here.

My son already left with the boat... we want to get it launched and trailer parked before the craziness ensues.   The rest of us will come later as long as the boat is launched.    My sister and her family are coming down from Bellingham and meeting us at the lake.   Already feels pretty warm out there.   Should be a fun 4th.

GFS is finally coming around to what the ECMWF has been showing which is just a minor cool down but staying warm.   12Z GFS is much less troughy for this coming weekend and beyond compared to many previous runs.

I’ve been to Puerto Vallarta before! I was a kid at the time but I really enjoyed it. (Although I do remember not enjoying one day when the tropical heat was particularly bad…)

Next time I want to go to the Sierra Madre there as well, you can go up to 9000’ and still see the ocean.

O the snow, the beautiful snow!
Filling the sky and the earth below!
Over the house-tops, over the street,
Over the heads of the people you meet,
Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
Beautiful snow! it can do nothing wrong.

Last week was in DC for a conference and holy humidity combine with smoke. 🤮

Here in Medford we have a Red Flag Warning from 2pm till 8pm. Nothing should happen right? 🤔
