I bought 1–2 troy pounds of sterling for CAD $15 last fall.

I was short on silverware, noticed a big pile of it on this table out in front of a junk store on Victoria Drive, noticed that some of it was what appeared to be silver plate, noticed the “silver plate” was in very good condition with no spots worn through, then noticed that it was hallmarked and bore the word “sterling.”

Sorted out the sterling from from the non-sterling, walked up to the guy with a big handful of silverware, and asked “how much?” Did not haggle.

One of my hobbies is jewellery making, so some of it will probably end up getting melted down for raw material at some stage, but as of right now it’s just part of my daily usage utensils.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Always on the lookout for silver coins, I have found a silver Canadian quarter in the past few years

Silver Canadian quarters are a good starting point but there are all sorts of cool collectibles out there. I’d encourage you to explore them.
