I thought I would post something before I go to bed. I got a lightning strike notification from my lightning detector. It's about 60 miles away. Here is the current radar and satellite picture. Let's hope we get some action later tonight and early morning too 🌩

The Riverbend hospital, just east of the Eug/Spr border is about 10x bigger than the Eugene hospital that is closing. It was pretty inevitable. That being said, it is a bit embarrassing that the hospital is not located in Eugene. It was a matter of locating the right amount of land and property and tons of crappy politics and grift.

Just asked my wife about it, and she said that the building was very underutilized and was way over due for major repairs/remodeling.  It is also hemorrhaging money (which is a true statement for most medical facilities these days to some degree). 

It sucks for the employees and the few people who did use it.  Hopefully they move the pediatric ER to Riverbend, they were a lifesaver for us when we were sent there from the Corvallis ER when we thought my infant daughter had intussusception.  Thankfully she didn't, but that was a very long and very stressful night, and we were dreading the prospect of having to drive to Portland at 1am.  Hard to believe my "infant daughter" is about to turn 27!

Portland is up next, as is Roseburg well to the south under a new band. I wonder if it will backbuild into Eugene. Plenty of activity offshore as well, thanks to the strong midlevel component.

Lightning and thunder like crazy now. It's a bit off to the west and not super loud, but still a nice show. No precip here though.

Lightning every two to three seconds! This doesn't happen in western Oregon. Sucks that it is 25 miles to my west, but I'm pretty happy.

Unfortunately, my home in Sherwood is surrounded by trees, except for one hole. Thankfully the fun for me is more tracking it. Still got this on phone video in the perfect spot.

Not good with the lightning tonight across Oregon.  This is prime time for wildfires.  But let's check out our smoke.  As of 1:10am, everyone is pretty much moderate right now, but things will quickly clean out tomorrow, opposite of what a lot of forecasters had been bemoaning for days.  

Ground level smoke should remain moderate (but a lot less then our last round) and start to clear out by 4pm  Pretty much all of Western Washington will clean up and Eastern Washington will greatly clear up too.  The story is less so for Western Oregon, especially SW Oregon which will be getting heavy smoke from California.  The reason for this quick cleaning of ground level smoke will be due to winds coming from the south, moving north, and pushing a lot of it away.  We may see some smoke aloft still but at least it's out of our breathing zone.

Let's hope the lightning doesn't cause more fires during this super dry time of year.

Yea, it's way to early to wake up for work there is a good cluster of storms along the Coast Range this morning. I just wish it was on the East side too. Maybe a little later this morning or afternoon

I slept through the earlier lightning and thunder, but I'm now seeing some nice lightning to the west. Hopefully we don't see too many fire starts

Very active this morning.  Looks like a second line of storms forming east of the ones along the Coast Range. If you look closely, you can see another shower forming next to Gates. Maybe another line of storms could be forming again I'll be heading out in about 30 minutes. I should see flashes of lightning on my way into work.

Warm breeze here and 68 this morning with a fairly clear sky.   Radar sure looks active to south.   Unfortunately, seeds have probably been sown now for more fires now with all that lightning in western OR.
