Interesting that the euro basically showed nothing around Portland and didn't have these showers delivering any meaningful rain until ~Toledo or whatever

With the way its consolidating into a solid band on the radar it might actually make it up here.

Convection is such a fickle thing that i really didn’t want to get too excited about the prospects of this one. Looks like it’s been very good down south, and some rain too! hopefully it can make it up here.

00Z ECMWF and now the 06Z GFS were much drier with the system next week.   Don't like the trend on the ECMWF in particular.

Is it actually a trend yet?

At least some areas are getting surprise rainfall today.

Not a trend on the GFS yet... but the last couple runs of the ECMWF have been drier each time.

We had constant thunder from about 930-430 overnight. Didn’t seem like it rained much, maybe a few hundredths, haven’t checked the gauge though, I could have slept through a heavier shower perhaps.

The band is consolidating even more and now appears to be enhancing as it moves north.    I think its going get pretty interesting around the Seattle area shortly here.

57 up here in Bellingham, spent all day down in Seattle yesterday buying a car, so I'm not really in tune with the prospects for the storms today, but I'm assuming Bellingham is SOL in terms of getting any sort of light show.

Fingers crossed some of the models showed it falling apart as it moved into SW WA but so far it looks like it’s intensifying actually.

Well that’s unfortunate. I had been thinking about that possibility coming up but hopefully there was enough rain. Just going to try and enjoy the light show either way.

Multi-year ENSO events have already been commonplace as far back as any records exist. Which is the 1850s or so.

Leave it to the media to take a reasonable, interesting study, take it out of context, and mischaracterize it, misinforming the public while railing against “disinformation”.

Pathetic.

That's why I've seen 100+ bolts over the last few years, including ~50 or so on Aug 9th, 2022. If there is a bolt to be seen, I'm out looking for it. It helps that the roof overhangs the front and the back of the house so I can stand there and not get wet.

Step 1: Look at the radar first to see which direction to look.

Step 2: Stare until your neck hurts.

Also, don't get struck by lightning.

Step 2: Why stand? Best way to enjoy a nocturnal light show is to pull out a lounge chair and medicate.

Not a single low below 80 at New Orleans Lakefront so far this month.

Alexandria, LA data for this month speaks for itself.

Been a Tim-o-riffic summer in the south this year. Heat indices/WBGTs higher than anything death valley has been spitting out.

Doesn’t always come with rain. But the biosphere is usually waterlogged enough that it doesn’t matter.

Had some *very* close calls in June this year, though. Have never seen that in the warm season before, very weird. Lucky the downpours started when they did because people here don’t even think about fire…the entire county would’ve been ablaze come July 4th.

Quite the delicate balance in that the ULL is close enough to give us the instability needed for storms these next few days, but not enough to trigger any significant marine intrusion.

Unusual for us in the summer after a convective event to not see a significant corresponding push and a switch to onshore flow. Here we are just sustaining the warm to hot stuff for awhile as the pattern remains more or less stagnant.
