That map was pretty much spot on average for this time of year, the response didn't really make sense in any of the contexts you just made up.

It falls under the frost in the warm season preference... because I believe he is interpreting that map to mean frost is possible at his specific location.   And he does not appear to like that because of his extensive (and very impressive) garden.   That is my take... made sense to me.   Even if it is climo.

I like my garden, so the longer a growing season the better. I prefer the first frost to wait till October. Won't be that lucky this year. 90 days between frosts.

This would be the earliest frost for me in 6 years, by 2 weeks. This is following the latest frost for me by 2 weeks. That's 4 weeks less of garden growing. I don't mind the shoulder seasons, they just lasted too long and are coming on too fast for my garden likes this year. You win some you lose some.

Hiking in snow is no biggie. I'm good until avalanche danger becomes a problem.

Believe it or not I got some super spicy habaneros and serranos this season!! Going to be able to make some hot sauce!

Also was a banner tomato year, 15 gallon bags frozen for processing into sauce (Oregon star tomatoes) this winter and over 35 lbs of slicing (cherokee purple) tomatoes... so many BLTs!!! Still a bunch still to ripen on the plants (hence my desire for the frost to wait). 

The best crop hands down was beans (bush/pole). 35 quarts canned and 15 gallon bags frozen.

It was a great garden year for sure.  Sounds awesome.    

You might have a warm-skewed view of gardening here based solely on the last 6 years.  But this probably the new normal so you moved here at the right time.

I “attempted” a snow lake trail hike I think a couple years ago in March only to find out that the trails was still shut down due to snow covers when I got there. That was a bummer.  I gotta do a frost hike one of these days, I think it would be awesome, which would be part of the reason to opt for a hike in late Sept or Oct.

30s in outlying areas during the 2nd half of the season would not qualify as frost in the warm season. It's highly typical and was common prior to the past decade. Our average first freeze used to be around September 20th, though now that date has moved back to the middle of October due to climate change.

If you look at historical data for my area frost in late August was not uncommon during the previous climate era. Even in the past decade we have seen lows fall into the upper 30s during the past week of August several times. Including a low of 38 at the end of August 2020. I doubt from a historical perspective your area is much different.

I understand I have moved here into a changed climate. My gardening likely would not have been possible at my house a few decades ago.

Not disagreeing.   But he doesn't have to like every aspect of climo.   You don't like November climo and you certainly don't like our new warm season climo.

Unlikely it will be a killing frost.  Too much rain this time of year is probably worse for a lot of things in the veggie garden

The Sequim and PA area has always been a great place for good productive gardens, at least in my lifetime.  My grandparents lived in Gardner for years and every year their garden produced massive amounts of goodies, they would can hundreds of jars of veggies every year and gave alot of it away!!

Never said it was bad... but definitely different.   Ripe tomatoes and hot peppers are not a given in western WA but becoming easier over the last 15-20 years.

Sequim and PA are an entirely different world than me at 1000’ they have at least 30 more growing days than I do

This dovetails with the recent CFS. Showing a very warm and dry October. This gives way to a very wet November and December.

What if the next CFS run is totally different?  Nothing dovetails with the CFS.  It's completely meaningless.

Deep clown range on a far less reliable model. I am not super-concerned about October yet.

All those Euro maps show is that, as I said, there are no good signs of an early start to the rainy season this year. I said nothing about signs of a late start.

An early start might still might happen; if the tap turns on in the first week of October, that is still earlier than normal. Heck, it might even turn on in late September; hour 240 is pretty clown rangy. But, no good signs of it yet.
