Wet wet wet. Like California last winter.

We saw something similar last year from Oct 22 - Nov 7 and when was really wet up here.    Then it all slipped south for the winter.   Would not be surprised if that happens again this year.

18z has a couple days, 9/30 and 10/3, that struggle to reach 50F here, both due to wrap around bands of rain from two separate cutoff lows.

Tis the season for a renewed following of the GFS temp output!   Based on my experience in the warm season... its usually way too extreme on both ends after about day 5.   As Phil is prone to point out.   ;)

What a gorgeous early fall evening out. Clear and 61 currently. Some light morning showers then partly cloudy by the afternoon today, 67/53 spread so far.  Should get well into the 40s by morning, possibly the coldest of the seasons so far. Love seeing the wet pattern show up in the mid range.

12Z EPS was wetter than normal for the next 15 days... have not seen it show this anomalously wet for a long time.

We got snow here twice in that time frame. 5” and 8”

A nice set of progressively cooler days here since Sunday. 73/51 spread that day with partly cloudy skies. 72/55 spread on Monday with similar sky conditions, and finally a 70/48 day yesterday with sunny skies early and increasing clouds late. Took a drive out to Astoria on Sunday and it was gorgeous.

Very breezy but beautiful afternoon up here in Bellingham.  I'm really hoping the winds die down for tomorrow, we are going to the San Juans, and while I love it when the waters get rough, my wife gets sea sick if I swirl a glass of water around in front of her face.

Gonna get down to 44-45F tonight. Brrr!

Friday looks to be the last high 70's of the year, then the wonderful faucet turns on from there. Just in time for fall quarter to start at UWT.

Could get to 70+ in the first half of October.     And that is still 10 days away.    We often get another 7-10 day dry, sunny spell in October after the first rainy period.   Conversely... when September is really dry and the rains hold off then we usually crash for good in October.

My garden out back would love some 70s sunshine in October, especially the tomatoes that have run rampant. Either way works for me, just looking forward to the orange and red trees!

This rainy period should help prolong the fall colors as the trees won't be stressed.   Last year was not good in that regard.

The view looking west from the column parking lot. Had a collision there in April '22. Lots of good memories of a picnic or two on that hill.

Cooling down here faster than I expected with clear skies up and down the Sound. Got to 47F just before midnight and steadily dropping; first 40s of the season here! KSEA down to 53F but there are some mid-upper 40s a mere jaunt from the airport. 45F is an attainable goal for them tonight if the inversion deepens.

Interestingly... Saturday looks wetter than Sunday on the ECMWF.    Also noticed that the main moisture plume sort of breaks apart on arrival on Monday and we get more rain in the post-frontal set up than with the main front.    I would prefer the solid AR solution to run up big totals across the area more evenly.

Tim probably very much prefers it, he wants a "solid AR solution" so it can get back to being sunny ASAP. I mean, he even mentioned that's what he wants. ;)

No doubt it will be wet... just delving into the specific details now that its getting closer.    And actually cheering for a massively wet week to make up some of the deficits.

I am cheering for everyone to be "blessed" as well.    No agenda.   This is the normal time of year for the rain to get going.  And you bloviate like no other.   You have ruined the word blessing forever with gross over-usage.  😀

Warm season is over... not concerned about it getting back to sunny.   There will be plenty of sunny periods in October.   What I really don't like is massive rainfall deficits.   Need to pay that debt back soon.

Killed by downsloping easterlies on Monday. The second system approaching at the end of that loop is going to be the wetter one.
