I am sure its fine.   I just find it funny how the national media plays up any rain at Huskies and Seahawks games.  You would think we live in a permanent monsoon year round with the way they talk.

Did someone say El Niño?

I ❤️ El Niño.

Probably nothing. -PMM could aid in retracting the ITCZ/HC farther south though.

East coasters aren’t used to stratiform rain during the warmer seasons. That’s a PNW specialty.

Today was the first cloudy/rainy day we’ve had since that fluky nor’easter in June. And it took a dying tropical system to pull it off.

I saw a mess of stratiform rain during the Penn State game today.   They didn't make a big deal of it.    This was a 15- minute light shower during the Huskies game.  🤨

That pool of really anomalous warmth in the northwest pacific is going to effect something

The East gets stratiform rain a lot more often than the PNW from mid June to mid September.

We get a lot more rain. But it’s not of the stratiform/isentropic upglide variety. Or low level marine scud.

Since May 1st we’ve had maybe 4 or 5 cloudy/rainy days total. And some of those were borderline, augmented by frontogenesis.

Let me correct you: it's rarely the stratoform/isentropic variety. But even then, the rate at which the midatlantic gets it is still higher than the PNW does during a typical Summer.

But that's true for almost anyone in the midlatitudes during boreal summer. The days are so long that it would take an absurdly large system moving especially slow to get stratoform rain to last all day. Not an east coast 'specialty'.

Though the marine level scud comment is factual. Unless we're referring to parts of coastal Maine, during the right setup.

Maybe in New England it’s more common. But I’ll wager the number of stratiform rain days here during the summer is on par with (or less than) the number of thunderstorm days in Seattle.

If it’s summer and cloudy, then it’s pouring rain. It often rains while it’s still sunny, but never gets cloudy if it’s not about to rain.

Definitely, we are drier in terms of cumulative rainfall during the warm season.

A NIGHTMARE!! Have done two now on my wife’s Outback. My hand/wrist are sore for about two days afterwards since you have to contort your hand into very unnatural positions.

I did the same, looked at the radar and knew how much dry time I would have. Did some detailing of the green machines today, finished right when the rain started. Not nearly as hard on the hands lol

IMG_8855.jpeg

I just got a Forester with HIDs, which should in theory should last a long time.  Surprisingly, bulb replacement for that car do not appear to be too terrible compared to other cars I have had.  Mid-90's Nissan Altimas Mk5 VWs are a nightmare.

The nightmare I am not looking forward to for my car is replacing the spark plugs.  I am at 53k miles, they are supposed to be replaced at 60k miles, but I don't think I am going to wait.  Some recommended methods of replacing them include actually lifting the engine up a little bit.  I might call a shop on Monday to see what they quote for the job.

I was planning to get up on the roof yesterday before the rains hit, but while I was at Lowe's getting some stuff, the winds kicked up, so I am having to put it off.

We ended up with .67" total for the day yesterday, and a low of 46 this morning.  Fall is definitely here!

I have heard what you mentioned that the “easiest” way of changing plugs, or water pump, or basically anything is to lift the engine up on some makes. One of the things I miss about my first car…I could basically sit inside the engine bay and easily change all 8 plugs in about 20min. Got a whopping 11 miles per gallon though 😀

UW game starting off with some VIEWS

As a Cal fan, that game sucked! My son and I did a 4 mile hike on Moscow Mtn yesterday so we were all tired. Caught the first three quarters but went to bed before the 4th. Was hoping for a 2019 magical redux.

I don't get Cal fans... their stadium is the most depressing place during games.    Its so lifeless and empty.   The Oakland As of college football.   I was thinking about Cal fans watching the game last night and then realized they don't even show up for home games so nobody is probably watching.   And now they are in the ACC?   That won't help.   😀

I’m going down to Tacoma in a bit to visit the in-laws. Guess I should’ve gone earlier… I didn’t look at the models for today so i assumed it was gonna start later. 😑

Totally dry so far today, but I stepped outside and see it has clouded over. Was completely sunny earlier.

It’s coming.

And yes, it increasingly looks like it will dry out next week. So it goes. It’s still early fall; warm, dry spells are to be expected. At least everything is going to be getting a good soaking this week. Should end the fire season and begin mushroom season.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Looks like the highest elevations could really get slammed with moisture over the next couple days. While the lowlands will probably only pick up an inch through Tuesday, the highest resolution models (NAM 3km and WRF 4/3 km) are predicting upwards of 10-15" of rain in the area near Mount Baker and high terrain of the Olympics. This isn't unheard of, but that 10-15x gradient is definitely stronger than you'd normally see during the year. The summits of the volcanoes could pick up more than 100" of snow in the next few days.
