Got down to 29.5 last night.  hit 32 on the way down just after midnight, and just got back up to 32 in the past hour.  Just took the doggo out and very heavy frost on the lawn.  WOOT!

Starting to look like a HARD ENSO crash next summer. I know Phil says we will probably go 8 years before we see another Nina, but it might be closer to 8 months.

No frost or freeze here. Ended up getting down to about 35F or so when I got up. I think the cloud cover here kept it warm enough. Ice scraper will have to wait another day for it's debut.

I guess if we are going to use extreme technicalities. It had 4 straight periods of +0.5 ONI, then fell to +0.4 in the fifth period.

On the flip side 2016-17 BARELY made official Nina status.

As for 2019-20, I have always had it in my head as a weak Nino, but I guess technically it wasn't.

Looks like SLE managed to make it down to 36 this morning after a midnight low of 38. Only 5 days this month have been below average, but the anomaly for the month is now down to -2.8. Just going by the NWS forecast through the end of the month they would end up with a monthly mean of 55.3 which would actually bring them out of the top 20 warmest October's (If they month ended today they'd still be #5.).

I can't either. I don't know how people do it. My mortgage is about what a studio apartment rents for a month in Silverton ($1400 including insurance and property tax), and I know our prices are significantly lower than the Puget Sound region.

Christ, our rent is $1500 and does not include water/garbage which is spendy and its on a tiny property.

I've made peace with the fact that I will never own a home or even be able to afford rent in most. I'm very fortunate to have the living situation I currently am in.

I can't either. I don't know how people do it. My mortgage is about what a studio apartment rents for a month in Silverton ($1400 including insurance and property tax), and I know our prices are significantly lower than the Puget Sound region.

I purchased my place in 2004 for 164K, 2.5 acres and very private. My Mortage is 1200 per month and it would sell for 800k on the market now. Just NUTS!

With the price of everything else I don't even know how I would make it if I had a rent/mortgage around $3K a month.

I can tell you no kids and dual income is the only way that works.  Any other situation and we'd probably be back east in some red state backwater.

Our mortgage is around $4K and with current housing prices/rates it would be closer to $6,500.

Dual income, one kid. Never seriously considered a second kid, otherwise I would be paying nearly $5K/month in daycare costs!

I know someone who bought a house in Seattle as a grad student back in 2010ish. His income was around 25K/year at that time as a researcher for the university. He lives in Tacoma now and rents it out.

That's what I would imagine. With as many kids as I have, there is just no way. I recognize how fortunate I was to buy at the right time AND manage to hang on to the home through my divorce 8 years ago.

We are fortunate in that my in laws will provide child care pretty much whenever at no cost. They are pretty chill too, so its no trouble. My wife kind of works, but doesn't really have any interest in work or a career. The only reason she really works is to get out of the house and because her employer offers great health insurance which covers all of us. Which saves quite a bit of money.

Christ, our rent is $1500 and does not include water/garbage which is spendy and its on a tiny property.

There was a FB feed up here in one of the Bellingham community pages last week where someone moving to the area was trying to get a sense of the rental market.  I was shocked to see someone not too far from me paying about $3,500 per month for a 2,200 sq ft house.  I don't think that included any utilities.  Granted, its in a "nice" neighborhood, but it doesn't have a mountain, bay or lake view.  A lot of home rentals were in the $2,500 to $2,800 range, and a studio apartment goes for at least $1,500-$1,800 in town.....just crazy!

We pay $1,800 for our mortgage, insurance and property taxes for a 2,800 sq ft house.  Granted, we got in when the market was very low (2013) and we refinanced to a 2.24% interest rate in 2022, but still....

The other half of the "crazy" equation, we bought this house for $330k in 2013, and it was valued at $880k at one point last year.  It has settled to a more "pedestrian" $680k this year.
