I suppose. But getting a properly timed phase at the right latitude can be quite difficult. It fails more often than not.

Which is why we need El Niño lol. More STJ = more opportunities.

We don’t have the luxury you guys do in having a giant moisture source immediately upstream. Storm track/jet is by far the most important factor here.

Interestingly, that was the driest winter on record nationally by a good margin. Not much of a storm track to be had, and what little there was probably went down to Belize.

We were lucky and only lost power for a little over a day.  Some places spent 10 days or more in the dark, which included Christmas for many and new years for a few.

00z GEFS Day 8-16 500mb Height Anomaly, 850mb Temperatures. Not bad. Positive anomaly over Alaska, trough, and southeast US ridge. There seems to be some real potential ahead.

Interesting, I wasn’t aware of that.

IMO 1978/79 and 2013/14 were some of the best all around winters for the CONUS. Delivered just about everywhere, and the 3-wave cold season pattern lasted for 4+ months in both years.
