No wonder it’s been so gloomy here.

Will this morning finally end our streak? It’s gone for now but persists just blocks to the south, as has been common.

A scientist named Dr. Bakun prophesied California waters only getting colder on average as climate change progresses. The long and short of it is the land is warming faster than the sea; this creates stronger winds, which cool the sea even more and so on.

On a more positive note LA County beaches are enjoying some hazy sunshine for the first time in quite a while, and the high is close to climatology for mid October after a long streak of subnormal.

Since 1998, a La Nina pattern has ruled about 60% of the time. This correlates with colder water off the California coast.

Go north a mile or two toward KLAX and it’s sunny. But cool; upper 60s or very low 70s. But as soon as you pass south of Rosecrans along PCH, WHAMMO DENSE FOG.

Marineweather.net, my go-to for the details on what’s going on overhead, is having downtime.

Caught a break this morning! Sun’s out; and a few high clouds here and there.

Will Fogtober finally end soon?

Uhhh…..nope.

Endless fog, even the afternoon there are still some clouds lingering as the sun angle is much lower and its struggles to fully clear the fog. This feels similar to October 2022, except the marine layer is much shallower compared to to 2022.

The grey stuff was gone by 11:30 or so, and it turned out pretty nice, low 70s.

I was down in Irvine — AML’s territory — this morning and it was still in the mid 60s around 10:30am. They’re looking at a relatively cool 72F for a high.

Phoenix is running 13 degrees above normal for October so far. They have apparently had 21 consecutive days of record highs.

The absurd high wave is about to end, though. Finally.
