Though I regret taking the COVID jab and I fear it may significantly shorten my life, I did take it willingly (Though it was eventyally required for my job, it was not at the time.). I have a lot of guilt around this as I encouraged others to take it, and even worked to implement bonuses for those who voluntarily received the jab.

I took the J&J one and tell myself that maybe it didn't do anything to me.  I took it because my parents refused to and I didn't want any chance of giving Covid to them.

You shouldn't feel bad.  At the time we had no idea what we were really dealing with.

I got covid just before Christmas.  Was my first time having it as far as I know (anecdotal, but heard of a number of other people also just getting it for the first time).  Wasn't severely ill, but it certainly wasn't pleasant.  First few days were the worst, and then had lingering congestion and smell/taste issues and bouts of fatigue.  Took 2.5 weeks before I was completely back to normal.  Hope you're better soon.

If you don't mind me asking, did you have a bad reaction to the shot or is it just more of a general concern about the future?

I had the initial 2 shots plus one booster.  Personally, I don't regret taking it, but I've had enough of covid vaccines for a while and don't intend on getting another one anytime soon.

Lost an older cousin to covid in early January 2021.  That was shortly after the shots came out but almost nobody had one yet.  I wonder what might have been had he been able to get vaccinated, but will never know.

I nearly lost my 88 year old mother around Christmas when she supposedly had Covid for the first time? Not sure how she managed to never have it before now because nearly everyone around her had it at some point. But she also had UTI, another light stroke, and possibly sepsis all at the same time and she still survived!! Just got her out of rehab yesterday. (I'm pretty sure I had covid twice, the last time around 2 years ago.)

They have found some batches of the vaccine were bad and caused heart problems.  Just one of the problems I know of.

It will be the 4 year anniversary of the pandemic on Monday. According to Wikipedia it's not over yet.

I remember a doctor friend of mine back then saying that almost everybody is going to end up getting this virus at some point.  This was at a time when cases were just starting to be confirmed (with even less in the US) and without really having any epidemiological knowledge, I was taken aback by that prediction.  But sure enough, here we are now with most people on the planet having contracted covid, in some cases multiple times.

Will never forget that crazy time.  The shutdowns, the uncertainty, the struggle to find toilet paper lol.  For a while, I think I would've had an easier time striking oil than finding some of those basic necessities.

If I had it, it was symptom free.
Both my husband and I had no symptoms and he works for the City.
Not everyone showed symptoms so I can’t rule it out.

The night that really stands out to me from 2020 is when the NBA shut down.  I think that was also the same day when Tom Hanks came out and said he had it.  At that point it was like oh man, what is this and how bad is it gonna get.

I got several mosquito bites this weekend.  So what, right?  Well, these aren't your typical mosquito bites.  They are ugly, large and have caused a lot of redness extending well away from the bite location.  I looked it up and there's actually a disorder called Skeeter Syndrome, and the pictures of that look just like what I have.

I've always had normal reactions to mosquito bites, so it had me wondering what changed.  I read that one possibility is getting bit by a different type of mosquito that the body has not encountered before.  But another thing I thought of is that it seems like this is the first time that I was bitten since I had covid back in Dec-Jan.  I did some research and found a few people on reddit saying that they seemed to develop this Skeeter Syndrome after having covid or the covid vaccine.  Sort of makes sense if the immune system has not fully calmed down yet.  Anyone heard anything like this?

There was no difference in excess deaths along partisan lines in 2018, indicating that the two groups were comparable. However, since the introduction of COVID-19 vaccines, the excess death rate among Republicans was 10.4 percentage points higher than among Democrats, or 1.5 times that of the Democrats.

Just finishing up my 2nd COVID experience…I sure hope I regain my smell and taste a bit sooner this time. Took about 6 months to get everything back to about 90% the first time, never did fully gain them back. And now both are completely gone again. The two day fever, body aches, and hacking was annoying but not the end of the world…It’s this loss of smell and taste that is soooooo frustrating.

I've heard that zinc supplementation can help with restoring smell/taste.  Might be worth a shot if you're not currently taking that... just be sure to get one of the forms that is more bioavailable.  I take zinc daily but I upped the dose a little while I had covid.  I believe it took about 8-9 days for my taste and smell to come back 100% (a little hard to remember the exact timeline because that symptom did not present initially).  I don't know if that's what helped, but it probably didn't hurt.

Here we go!
I’ve been reading small news articles on outbreaks. Finland plans to offer preemptive bird flu vaccines as soon as next week to some workers with exposure to animals, according to health authorities.

I’m also hearing news on the horizon about dengue fever.
It’s like every dreaded disease is being resurrected. I find that curious.

How bad was your sore throat?  Mine was pretty brutal... actually one of the worst I ever had.  Did some searching at the time and found that severe sore throat from covid is uncommon, but happens in a small percentage of people (usually it's milder).  Cough drops didn't ease the discomfort at all so I ended up getting a numbing spray and that really helped.

The brutal sore throat was the worst part of covid for me when I had it in January, wife had the same thing goin on.

Yeah, that was the symptom that took me by surprise as far as how bad it was.  I had less pain when I had strep throat.
