We are now 2/3 way thru June 2024 the mean at Grand Rapids so far this month is 70.4 that is a departure from average of +2.8 the highest so far this month and year is 94. So far there have been 3 days of 90 or better and that is the average for June. There have been 3 more days of 87 or better and the average is 6 so we are now at average for days of 87 or better. The low for the month so far has been 45. There has been official 1.13” of rain fall here in MBY there has been much less rainfall.

Heat wave recap. This has been a rather hot warm spell for mid-June. The last 6 days have had highs of 88, 94, 90, 93, 89, and 89. That is moderately impressive but more so has been the overnight lows that have been 68, 76, 76, 71, 68 and so far today 71. This is very warm for mid June and here in our area very warm for any time. Today will be the last day of this warm/hot spell. We could see some heavy storms later today. Here in MBY there has not been much rain this month while the official rainfall total at GRR so far this month is at 1.13” I have only had 0.62” here.

The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 89/68 there was no rainfall and the sun was out 60% of the time. For today the record high of 97 was set in 1894 and 1923 the coldest high of 56 was set in 1902 the record low of 39 was set in 1992 the warmest low of 73 was set in 1908. The most rainfall of 1.92” fell in 1928.

It never gets that bad around this area. Even though it's very bushy and green here we have a more moderate number of cicadas.

Gosh, you got me thinking of how young I was back in 1990...only 8 years old...makes sense to me of the memories I had back in my old neighborhood.

PHX blew past the forecasted temp and tied a record 117F.  I had a feeling we would exceed the max temps as we had a head start already in the morning in the low 90's.  Iirc, we also tied a record high low temp (very common these days).

Skies are overcast today and temps are yet again in the low 90's.  Should have some exciting storm action later this afternoon.  Gotta say, this is officially my first year living in the desert and I'm thrilled to have the Monsoon start in June.

My Tucson family feels the same way.   The rain off the mountains smells so sweet.  Desert cactus blooms. It’s beautiful…for a while.  They have Mt Lemon for cool in summer.

I have a real good feeling about this Monsoon season and the desert will be blooming in the midst of the Summer heat.  Might be a complete opposite scenario compared to last summer when the state experienced a Hellova Heat wave all summer long.  Nature's balancing act!

It is critical to quality of life out there.   
They have some thumping good thunderstorms and lightning displays.   Ready your camera for the light show.  

I love the storms in the Tucson mountains even if they do scare the wits out of you.

Did not get much rain here this morning just 0.4" in the rain gauge. Things are getting really dry in my area. The current temperature/dew point is 85/72 with cloudy skies. I work outside at the Whitecaps (a local minor league baseball team)  and it was rather hot in the sun last night. I was just outside and with the clouds it really is not all that bad out. I will water the plants as I am not sure just how much rain we will get here in MBY.

Lots of stories and pictures of the flooding around here. Many businesses and roads have closed because they are completely inaccessible. We now have more rain fallen YTD than 2019, which was an exceptionally wet year. I'm just thankful our sump pump was able to keep up and we don't have any standing water in our basement, unlike many other houses around here. Our next chance for storms appears to be Monday night. Until then, we need to dry out as best we can.

As of 1230pm all locations in Chester County are above 90 degrees. This includes a few spots reaching 90 for the first time so far this year. Of interest here in East Nantmeal we have already hit 91.5 degrees. I have kept daily local observations here for 21 years / summers. This is the warmest temperature recorded here in East Nantmeal Township since the 91.6 degree reading 19 years ago back on August 13, 2005. This is only the 60th time I have recorded a day over 90 degrees in the past 21 summers. Tomorrow will be another hot day but maybe a couple degrees lower than today. Tomorrow will end what for some spots has been a string of 90+ days. The good news is as I look into the longer range models....Is I have a suspicion we will not see another day this summer as hot as today.

The DFW area should see its first 100* day mid week.  Thats a little early.   
Humidity will be normal to a little high for us. 43-53%

The next 10 days will be 99-100*. I’m hoping we get this over with and don’t stay in this torch all summer.

One last hot day before we cool down tomorrow. While we are still over 2" of rain above normal this year here in Chesco our lawns gardens and many farmers in the county could sure use a little rain, The good news is our best shot for some rain in a couple weeks looks to arrive later today and tonight. After today it look like only one day this week could touch the 90 degree mark again....Wednesday.

Chester County records for today: High 99 degrees at West Chester (1988) / Low 40 degrees also at West Chester (1984) / Record daily rainfall today is the 5.75" from the remnants of Hurricane Agnes back in 1972. Some other daily rainfall from that day across Chester County included 5.63" at Morgantown/Elverson / 5.75" at West Grove / 4.56" at West Chester and 4.98" at Glenmoore,

No rain here overnight as storms where scattered and fell apart after sunset.  A heat advisory goes into effect tomorrow with highs in the upper 90s and a heat index around 110.  The humidity may get out of control here on Tuesday with morning lows around 80.  There are a few cold fronts showing up later next week, hopefully they will bring some rain along with some cooler temperatures.

The falls on the Big Sioux River in downtown Sioux Falls are roaring right now. Here's a comparison shot. When we first moved here, the falls looked like the bottom picture. It was 90% rock formation, 10% rushing water. Now you can't see any rock formation at all. There's not even much of a waterfall because the river level is so high. Pretty crazy.

Spoke to my family back home and that line of storms was vicious and very electric....the radar loop looked beautiful...dumped 3-5" of rain all over the Chicagoland area...

Meanwhile, out here we got skunked because of the cloud cover hanging around all day long.  I had a bad feeling about our storm chances yesterday morning with the overcast skies, however, nasso much up in the high country and Tucson area which got dumped on big time.

PHX set another Record High low temp yesterday at 92F....the DP's are in the low/mid 60's across the valley and up to 74F in Tucson!  Incredible moisture in the air.

We stayed a bit warmer than forecast this morning. 75 for a low in Ashland, and some areas to my west never went below 80 degrees. I see I'm in a Slight Risk for severe t'storms today.

The official H/L yesterday at Grand Rapids was 87/70 there was 0.35” of rainfall the highest wind gust was 37 MPH out of the NW the sun was out 13% of the possible time. For today the average H/L is 81/60 the record high was 98 in 1923 that year also had the warmest low of 73. The record low of 38 was in 1918 and the coldest high was 55 in 1972. The record rainfall of 3.18” fell in 1989.

Here in MBY I had a overnight low of 65 and there was 0.90” of rainfall. At the current time it is cloudy and 68 with a DP of 65.

Ugh... the Tuesday storms are now trending east and south of my area on the models.  For now, it looks like a good chance on Friday as a big MCS moves in from the west in the morning.  I hope that doesn't crap out, too.

Our forecast is hot and dry the next 10 days.  It doesn’t appear any moisture will come this far south.

Another fail here, second consecutive 100 degree day and not a drop of rain. Have only recorded 0.2” so far this month.

Haven’t had this kind of warmth in June since 2012. Feels like it’s going to be one of those summers.

And this isn't  the first summer. I called it the "Hell hole" of the midwest. And I got a decent  rain on May 25th. So from May 26th to now that map is way worse.

For today the average H/L is 82/61 the record high of 96 was set in 1901 and 2009. The coldest high was 62 in 1994 the record low of 41 was set in 1961 the warmest low of 73 was set in 2005 and 1997. The most rainfall of 2.88” fell in 1994 that year was a cold and wet June 24th

There was 0.55” of rainfall here in MBY overnight I was surprised to have that much. The overnight low was 58 and the current temperature is 61 with clear skies.

I'm in that small purple circle at the top of Iowa. 17" this month.  7" Friday night alone. Ran 3 sump pumps, a shop vac and bailed buckets out of our sump pit all night with 7 of us working furiously. Long time since hubs and I pulled an all nighter. We stayed dry but just barely kept ahead of it. It was close. Too close. 

Many neighbors with piles of carpet and belongings outside in driveways. 

And we were lucky compared to friends 25 minutes south in Spencer, IA. 4.5 feet in their basement. Some with water to roofs. Absolutely heartbreaking and devastating.

Video of the spillway in Spirit Lake, IA. This is where Big Spirit Lake flows into the north part of the Okoboji chain. It was bone dry in April. Under normal circumstances there is usually a 3 foot "spill" of water. Running flat and fast now. It had been out of banks on the sidewalk but I was fighting my own water battles at home most of Saturday.

Here is the outlet on the other side of the road.

Son had senior pictures taken on those rocks that are underwater. Crazy.

I'm surprised how clear the water is given the amount of rain/runoff that is filling up the lakes and rivers.  I know a farmer out in NW IA who runs a hog farm and is flooded pretty bad.  He says he can't get deliveries in and out of his farm.  Hasn't been this bad in a very very long time.  Thanks for sharing.

I had my first light shower yesterday morning that was just enough to dampen the pavement and bring the sweet smell of the Sonoran Desert.   That is all we got this whole weekend while everyone to our north, south and east got blessed with heavy rains.  Sedona had a large cell that was nearly stationary and dumped heavy rain.  It looks like our chances of rain subside this week but I got my eyes on the week of the 4th of July.
