Wonder if there’s been any detailed comparison of June 2021 in the PNW and July 1936 in the Plains. Which one was more extreme?

2021 was almost certainly a more extreme event in terms of standard deviations from climatology.

1936 stands out in terms of its duration, the pattern recycled multiple times over 5-6 weeks. Basically high desert like conditions.

I would assume June 2021 was more extreme in its intensity but it was short lived.  The stuff on the plains in the 30s was longer duration

This summer is looking amazing so far on the models. No death ridges in sight yet. The last month has been beautiful with reasonable balancing between toughing and sunny/warm days.

I agree. Not much to complain about. We have had enough rain to keep things green. Not as lucky up in Washington. KXL morning news mentioned Washington has entered a DROUGHT.

We’re not in terrible shape up here after the last couple months. Could be better but so far things are looking good. Looks like most of the drought conditions are prevalent on the east slopes of the cascades.

Warmest overnight low of the year so far this morning at 55. Cloudy and cooler so far today which is nice after yesterday’s warmth. Can’t complain too much about a warm day every now and then considering it’s been a really pleasant run recently.
looks like a little rain coming for Western Washington higher terrain tomorrow then maybe a more widespread shot to finish the month out. Should be enough to push us over 2” for the month if it verifies.

Yeah it wasn’t even really that hot here compared to what you endure for 4 months every year. Not sure why people make such a big deal about it.

Some midlevel debris kicking off light showers over the Sound. Won't amount to anything measurable but clouds are certainly taking a bite out of high temperatures. Currently 62F at KSEA, around 10F behind this time yesterday.

Climbing St. Helens that day. Some morning stratus/drizzle on the way up that burns off in the early afternoon would be ideal.

Just returning tonight from two weeks in South America. Started out in Lima and then headed to Cusco and saw Machu Picchu. Then flew up to Ecuador and spent the last week in the Galapagos Islands, checking out the variety of protected national park landscapes and endemic plants and animals there.

Had pretty nice weather for the most part. The cool late fall nights in the Peru interior got us down to freezing on a couple of mornings, and there was fairly regular mist and drizzle where I was staying in the central part of the islands. But sunny afternoons daily in the dry northern parts of the islands.

The early sunsets were a bit of a shock to the system after such long days back home. Would love to spend a whole June-August down in Patagonia one of these years, and get a double dose of winter.

According to this study by some scientists the June 2021 heat wave was a 10,000 year event.

A few tips if this is your first time, first off, you don't mean that. 2nd, please for the love of god, if you can overheat, do not be ascending or at the summit in the afternoon, especially if it ends up being a warm day. It gets HOT on those boulder fields, the earlier you start the better, ideally before sunrise.  Third, glissade every foot down the mountain possible, a controlled slide down the snow on your asss is so much better than sticking to the Boulders.

And dont forget to wear pants and gloves, I've seen people go up in shorts without gloves and they get brutalized by the Boulder hopping, Volcanic rock is SHARP.

Enjoy your climb, fingers crossed for the cornice to be gone by then.

I think they finally figured it out… Keep the other team from scoring any points and your odds of winning increase significantly.
