Dude, you don’t understand how these patterns work here. Models always overdo precip with downsloping westerly flow. And the vast majority of days will be at/above 90°F, several in the upper 90s.

That doesn’t look that unreasonable for the mid Atlantic in summer over the next 10 days.  You live in a pretty warm summer climate.

Average high is mid/upper 80s right now. It’s very early for this kind of weather.

Of course you expect it during niño to niña transition summers w/ descending +QBO (and in-situ -PMM). In that context it’s not “unreasonable” given the associated pattern forcings.

But, it is anomalous w/rt overall climo, and given the aforementioned pattern forcings, this +GMT type 500mb pattern will likely continue through the summer with only transient breaks.

I think I'm going to start losing brain cells if I have read one more mainstream media article about what's going on with our weather right now.  They simply have no understanding of how amplified regimes cause more extreme weather than normal.  I kid you not I read an article that was entitled we have ruined rain!  They actually think that major flooding and droughts never happened before.  They should have been in CA in January 1862.  Probably the greatest AR event in recorded history....just as one example.

This is what it shows on weather spark. Some of your highs this week are over the 90th percentile. I think it’s based on old climatology normals though.

In June 2012, DCA put up a 104 and had five days of 97+.

In 2011, they hit 102 and had three days of 98+ within the first 10 days of the month.

In 2010, they had seven 95+ days.

In 1994, they hit 90+ for fourteen straight days from 6/13 to 6/26, including a 101.

In 1959, they had three straight days of 99, 100, and 100. Also nine 93+ days.

In 1952, they had eleven 93+ days, including three straight days of 98, 101, and 98.

In 1925, eight of the first ten days of the month hit 94+, and there were three straight days of 99+, including a 100.

In 1911, they hit 101 on 6/11.

None of what's happening this month is unprecedented, hasn't happened earlier, or is in fact as extreme as these other events.

Looks maybe 2-3F above average for the next week.  Not much of a big deal.  Probably hard to notice the difference between 87-88 and 89-90.

Looks like 2 *slightly* below average days in a sea of torch.

Meanwhile, just recorded my 2nd consecutive day at/above 100°F, after not reaching 100°F in 8 years. And it’s June..haven’t seen 100+ this early in 14 years (2010), and have never recorded back to back 100+ days this early before.

Although I’m on the other side of the continent in western Canada, I wonder how folks survived the summer humidity in the 17, 18, and early 1900s out east. Granted, no urban islands, but the Gulf of Mexico was still bathtub warm. (I spent one summer in southern Ontario. When it got to 80F it was disgusting). Seeing what they wore and what they lived in, how did they keep their sanity and survive? Nothing about clothing from those eras looks comfortable, never mind wearing it in mid-July.
